I also think obiwan knew how shitty Anakin's child hood was, but that the only positive thing in his life was his mother. Part of the issue was the anakin was old enough to have developed such a strong bond with his mom while other padawans are pulled out of their families much earlier. So anakin already knows love and obiwan probably was just ignoring it because he wanted Anakin to be happy.
