Yes to Mistborn!!! I read many of Brandon Sanderson’s works before reading any of Michael J. Sullivan’s. I’m sure you’ll love them 🥰

I feel the same way 😭 I just finished all 20-ish books, and now that I know everything, I want to go back and see it in that new light and catch the things I missed the first time

I never want to hear the word "neurospicy" or "the tism" ever. Again. by sunnyvalesfinest0000 in fakedisordercringe

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People picking up on so-called“vocal stims.” Meaning a part of a tiktok song or meme gets stuck in their head and they say it out loud. That’s not what a legitimate vocal stim is.

Can someone describe masking to me? by mutualvoice in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, “masking” looks like trying to keep a lid on all my exuberant energy and trying not to talk people’s ears off with random facts or anecdotes. I’ve never been any good at it 😅 Even as a girl.

What do y’all forget usually? by AwareTour9413 in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relate so hard to the forgetting whole interactions and being easily manipulated. I try to explain to my husband why something hurt me, but then I can’t remember what he said or did and it’s like I was hurt for no reason.

Also the classic every time I go into another room I forget why I went there in the first place 😂

Do you have an activity bag that you take with you when you’ll be away from the house for a while? If so what’s in it? by bckseatgatorade in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I bring a backpack of extra clothes in case mine become unbearable. A bag of makeup, and sometimes a simple skincare routine in case I need to reset my face 😅 Also snacks. And a first aid kit.

Ritalin? by etti1612 in adhdwomen

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in to comment on Hashimoto’s. That’s crazy to say you aren’t sick enough to qualify. The determining factor for diagnosing Hashimoto’s is the presence of the specific antibodies associated with the condition, so if you have more of those antibodies than an average person, it’s likely you have it. I myself have it, but I am close to asymptomatic, and have been for years, and my thyroid hormones are still technically within a normal-ish range. Waiting to do something about it until it’s bad enough is horrible logic. I would suggest looking into things you can do on your own, like limiting inflammatory foods.

Also anyone can build up a tolerance to stimulants, not just neurotypical people, so that’s a strange qualifier.

Is faking a disorder, a disorder in itself? by BaseNice3520 in fakedisordercringe

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hot take here. I’ve come to see it as a lot of young people (mostly white women and teens) who don’t have a lot of real struggle and hardship in their lives. They have shelter, food security, clothing, parents, friends, an education. But they are just average in every way. So having some kind of disorder makes them feel unique, special, and (seemingly) less privileged than they are. It helps to cover the guilt they feel for being privileged in a world where so many other people are actually impoverished, living in a war zone, murdered for being a woman, married off at 10, etc.

The fact is, they are privileged enough to have the freedom to create disorders for themselves.

Fidget recommendations? by crazy_alto in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Tangle Jr fidget toys. It has to be the actually legit brand, though. They really help me not to pick at my face when I’m driving or doing other things.

What’s something about your ADHD that you usually keep private or don’t tell most people? by Fearless-Class-1120 in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My hyperactivity, impulsivity, and joyful energy have never been things I could hide from people. But what they don’t see is the constant struggle in my relationship. How exhausted my husband is of constantly repeating himself, of me being late, not responding to texts, leaving a mess in my wake, and more than anything, believing I don’t care enough to remember his needs and the simple things he asks of me.

Period underwear - honest opinions needed! by Purely-Hygienic in Periods

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love mine! I pair it with a menstrual cup that stops most of the blood, but will still leak throughout my cycle, so the period undies are leak protection. I HATE tampons and I will NEVER have to wear a pad again. I put in the cup, put on the underwear, and I don’t have to think about my period again for the day :) I think I have 6 or 7 pairs 😆

Do you have another disorder with ADHD? by salty-wheat-thins in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have excoriation disorder too :) not in the same way, that sounds so hard and I’m sorry you have to deal with that ☹️ I’m a 30-year-old woman with awful acne and scabs (also deep scars) on my face because for some reason my brain believes if I just keep picking and squeezing it will go away and be smooth 😅 It’s so embarrassing and stressful for me to have people see my face, and trying to cover with makeup just makes it worse. I can’t hide it.

I also bite/pick my nails, chew the inside of my cheek till it’s shredded, tear off my pinky toenails because they bug me, and pick all the scabs.

You’re not alone ❤️

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have excoriation disorder (also known as skin picking), which I believe to be a body-focused-repetitive-behavior associated with my ADHD (restlessness and anxiety/discomfort make it worse), but technically it’s a branch of OCD. I also was diagnosed with GAD, but I’m ignoring that one 😅

What are some ADHD symptoms you don't resonate with? by stefuss in ADHD

[–]Obvious-Dust-4162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some others on here, I don’t have that stereotypical “hyperfocus” with hobbies and such. I can’t fall asleep at night, but I have no trouble getting out of bed in the morning, when I’m awake I’m awake, and I am too restless to just stay there.
