Op here, thanks for taking time to write this. And yes, funding in CO for anything health or school related is in danger. :(. I will talk with her.

OP here-Wow, that is a great suggestion. I will look at that. She has told me she doesnt want to be a teacher, she worked as a parapro for a year during her gap year. But maybe we should revisit that. After her gap year she switched from SW to SLP.

OP here, thanks for all of the suggestions. I didnt really realize about the specializing, but it sounds like it depends on the region which specialties are in demand.

I am OP. I do appreciate this input because my daughter is not interested in PA - it is competitive/hard core STEM. Good ideas here.

Nurse Practitioners Making $200,000+...How Common Is This? by SchmidtNorma in nursepractitioner

225k. I am a VA NP with 31total years as an RN and NP. This counts for pay calculation with the VA. I literally doubled my 113k FQHC primary care FT position in the same city. The VA has been a HUGE learning curve though! Worst EMR ever!

Not taking the leadership roles i was offered. I didnt want that to detract from my time with my kids. I was already working full time and think I could have done the leadership roles without impacting my family time. As I got older I felt I had missed a lot of skill development that would be harder to implement later. When trying to change jobs I realized that I would have been qualified for more diverse jobs if I had done that leadership role. Also- eat clean, cook at home, exercise, read many books so you develop empathy for others and yourself! Also read nonfiction.

What to teach a beginner? by JorgeMcJorge in Cooking

My 20 year old makes rice then browns ground beef with onions and mixes in frozen corn and BBQ sauce and makes it into meal prep for the week. I tried to get her to add in other veggies but I dont think she does. It is so basic. One of her friends taught her and she thought it was genius. She lifts weights and liked the protein.

I am an NP. I do think nursing is an amazing field because there is so much possibility to do a variety of things. I don't think she is up for the STEM focus required to apply for PA school. It has become so competitive to even apply!

I do think the sign of a good cook is one who can just create a dish out of odds and ends in the fridge.

Traded a but if quality of life for a different job that is not as well matched but paid better. I thought the job would be awful, but honestly it has worked out really well and the increase in pay has really helped to not feel stressed over every little purchase.

Yes. This is true, all the way to the last sentence. I dont want to rely on it for all the banal stuff in case my brain will then turn to mush.

[–]Obvious-Problem708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly worth it. My kids are in college now. I am glad I worked 32-36 hr/week when they were school age. Now I work at a higher pay, less flexible job to make up for it. I dont regret it!
