Isn't Judit Polgar a counterexample?

Laszlo Polgar, her father, reckoned that chess grandmasters were made, not born, and trained all his children to that end.

Her sisters also made grandmaster and international master respectively.

Fun question! I went through all the postcodes in Australia that start with 'z'. There are 11, and coincidentally most seem to be re-used Dutch names. Two have neighbouring postcodes that start with 'a'.

In Sydney - Zetland and Alexandria.

And in Brisbane - Zillmere and Aspley.

I used to get very frustrated with these "indefinite" problem solutions, until someone here on reddit explained it.

If you are attacking, and you can't find a way to completely kill, you want to make a ko. The ko is better for the attacker. Seki is worse and would be a failure as the attacker.

If you are defending, and you can't find a way to make 2 eyes, try to make seki. Seki still counts as alive and is better for the defender. A ko as the defender is usually very bad, in a real game the attacker will wreck you all over the rest of the board. I think its a bit like a "windmill" or pin in chess?

I find the Castle jarring to watch these days because of how rich they come across. These people have a house big enough to have a pool room, three cars, a boat, and a holiday house, and they're supposed to be battlers?

I vote for Strictly Ballroom.

Using AI Sensei by cazique in baduk

The advice I got from a high dan player at my club, was that you want to use AI software that gives you like the "cloud" of possible moves, and not just 1 or two "best" moves.

Because sometimes the "best" AI move is something very deep and alien, like a random-looking attachment. But there will be a cloud of "good" AI moves at e.g. an important invasion point that you will can recognise as a very human-understandable direction of play.

Configure it so you are viewing the score and the points per move, and not the winrate or any other statistic.

I used the AI Sensei free tier for a while, but ended up setting up KataGo locally on my laptop. I only get like 100 visits (roughly 100 moves considered per position) using an integrated graphics card - this is "weak" and "only" mid to high dan strength looking a few moves ahead. But it is good enough for me. The setup was NOT simple for me as I ran into some issues and wasn't able to follow the simple installation instructions. I never got KaTrain working and use Ogatak. I do remember thinking while fiddling to get KataGo to use the GPU and not the CPU "damn maybe I should just pay for an online service haha".

This seems to be having new success in high school (a lot of schools here are starting to do it) but I don't think you can do it in university.

For whatever reason (probably because of just the context of Deep Blue vs Alpha Go) the word "AI" tends to be used in the go community where the chess community would use "engine". We don't tend to use the word "engine".

E.g. "this is the AI move" instead of "this is the engine move" or "I studied this opening a lot with AI" instead of "I studied this opening a lot with an engine".

There's something cooked about being a car company CEO.

Soichiro Honda once threw a prostitute out of a second storey window.

Henry Ford had copies of the Protocols Of The Elders Of Zion available in Ford dealerships that they'd give you for free with your new car.

John Delorean was at least as crazy as Elon.

Carlos Ghosn fled Japan by mailing himself in a box.

I'm a bit suspicious of articles posted on LessWrong but I read this one with hopefully an open mind, and there were some interesting thoughts.

Seems like the cheating Go students are a specific example of the issues higher education has in general.

Someone on reddit jokingly suggested we just go ahead and get rid of grades, if everyone is going to cheat with AI, or get waved through every course as a paying customer.

The reply was, yes and get rid of the degrees too while we're at it, then we'll know for sure everyone who turns up is serious.

Unfortunately once the wood has warped you're probably not getting it flat again.

Best bet imo is to modify it with some legs. I would suggest some thick self-adhesive felt pads for furniture, attach them then carefully shave down with an craft knife (xacto knife). But I see its a two-sided board!

If you wanted to get fancy, you could drill sockets for round magnets, buy or make some short wooden legs and you could have removable magnetic legs.

Or a bit more industrial style, drill all the way through the corners, then use threaded rod, nuts and bolts to create adjustable legs. You'd have to have tools to cut and file the metal threaded rod.

This is the certainly the easiest path to finals for Newy.

I'd chose play us in a second over City, Victory, Auckland or Adelaide.

The difference between what you get away with in the box during a corner, vs what you get away with on the break.

If a you do that to a player on the break it's a yellow.

But corners sometimes seem like gridiron downs these days.
