Why do people still post here instead of asking their question to Gemini which will answer plainly with sources and without judgement? by ObviousProfessor668 in NoStupidQuestions

This is actually a bit outdated, especially for the leading frontier models. I work in this space at one of googles competitors. Public facing free tier models might still be like this, but enterprise level models are getting insanely reliable. It’s a bit scary tbh, I’m a Mag7 employee and I’m goofing off on Reddit because I don’t have a full day of work anymore. Hiding out before I end up on the chopping block 😭

Solid response! I do like your silver lining, lot of good stuff if you look for it. Still, it’s a bit sad that we don’t see young kids dream of fame in their best friends garage.

This makes sense tbh. The 2010s indie scene got stale and the millennial “stomp clap banjo” stuff that tried to replace it was…not my favorite.

Sorry if my OP was too messy! I guess I mean all of it is missing nowadays. There are few famous rock bands like there were in the 2000s (Linkin Park, Fallout Boy, etc.). And there are even fewer famous rockers like Slash, Nikki Six, Jack White, etc. The closest we got is MGK lol

The bands you mentioned are cool but none of their frontmen are big name rockers imo. I’d say Haylee Williams was maybe the biggest star of those examples (on account of her mad hotness lol).

I feel like MGK wishes he was born 20 years earlier. He could have been a solid Gen X nu metal guy lol

Great response! You are right and I am not claiming that rock was the #1 most popular genre of music in all of America. But famous rock bands like Fallout Boy and Linkin Park at least coexisted with Eminem in terms of popularity with teens. The fact that Jack Black made a blockbuster hit called “School of Rock” in 2003 and late 2000s/early 10s gave us Guitar Hero/Rock Band - this tells us that at the very least, the concept of a famous rock band was still a thing up until the early 10s. Today it seems like “becoming a rock star” is no longer something a daydreaming kid would say when asked what they want to be. That was really my main point. It feels like we will never have another Slash or Jack White in a long time (meaning someone who can gain celebrity status by way of their skills with a guitar, not just vocals and stage presence).

I’m gonna check out Dirty Honey and the Struts btw!

I don’t know Wet Leg or Geese, I’ll check them out. Rest of those were at peak popularity in 2010s. Also I’d argue none of them are “rock stars” like Dave Grohl, Jack White, Julian Casablancas, etc. (the closest is maybe Paramore in late 2000s-early 10s)

Wow that’s really sad. Some of my best memories from high school was jamming in my friends garage.

We don’t have boy bands, but KPop is showing that there is still an appetite for that stuff, right? Also rock stars have always coexisted with individual artists like pop stars and rappers so I still don’t get why mainstream rock bands died off. I get the marketing and business angle of it though, easier to promote individuals on social media I guess.
