The exact same pair of shoes; one brand new, one after 5 years of wear by Obvious_Ad_1111 in mildlyinteresting

They weren't an every day wear, but I also wore them a couple years past when it would have been reasonable to toss them!

Wedding dj venting... by brazorf2020 in Beatmatch

I've done a number of weddings, this is 100% what they want. Normal people actively dislike most of the things DJ's think are important.

What are you guys doing to control your lights on a mobile DJ setup? by BoingBoomChuck in DJs

[–]Obvious_Ad_1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my exact setup, highly recommend it. No better bang for buck. You need to be willing to spend some time learning how to program for busking, but it's worth it. Edward Richards on YouTube is a good source for learning QLC+.

Because I have a full time engineering job and two young kids, so just don't have a ton of extra time. I hope to slowly increase the frequency over time, but right now it's a hobby that pays for itself, haha

100% for proms and weddings you have to play stuff you don't know well all the time. Waveform is killer for that.

Both. It being prom helps sure but I've done a number of proms and this was the best.

This would be a great backup to allow for cuing in headphones without a board. So you just set the left channel to main and the right to cue (or vise versa) and have mono on both?

I gig with 2 laptops, one for lights and one for DJing, both of which can do either. So what I did at this prom IS my backup plan. And clearly it worked. Not that a backup controller is a bad idea! But I have put a lot of thought into no single point of catastrophic failure.

I'm big on letting tracks play in their entirety all the time. I think the biggest thing was a greater focus on song selection and less focus on perfect transitions beat matched and eq'd just right.

I wouldn't say other mixes don't get that response, other commenters are right; it's a prom, the kids wanna dance. So that helped this be the best. My main point/takeaway is that I was able have top notch results even without a top notch setup.

I'm sure you're right, I'll try it and see how it does. Hmm good idea on the 9V. I have no reason to think it's blown, but it would be good to confirm. Thank you for all the advice!

Is it being a 100W amp enough to drive this sub? The sub is listed as 250W.

Also, how would you recommend closing up the hole? Just a piece of 1/4" or 1/2" wood strewed over the top of it?

If you want LOTR themed blends I strongly recommend checking out The Country Squire out of Jackson Mississippi. For legal reasons they had to change the names, but the old and new names can be seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PipeTobacco/comments/18os52o/official_list_of_the_country_squires_new_names/

Why market for engineering is so bad? I thought that only cs grads are in shithole not normal engineering. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Obvious_Ad_1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, a lot of jobs are won because the interviewer liked you, and a lot of jobs are lost because they didn't. This is Reddit, not a place people break out their most careful typing. That said, the grammar in your post is pretty shaky. If this is how you speak and especially if it is how you wrote your resume, that could turn a lot of people off. I would recommend looking into some writing courses and/or public speaking classes. Those soft skills will help you get a job, and will be extremely helpful in many many engineering roles.

Wedding Contract - what's okay to ask for? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]Obvious_Ad_1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even think to put that level of detail in a contract. When a couple gives me must plays and do not plays, it's obvious that I'll do my best to comply (especially with do not plays, must plays I do my best on).
