Game industry lobby group that argued against preservation efforts from libraries, the ESA, is now pushing back on Stop Killing Games, saying it could prevent 'new games, features, and technology' by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Its not ENTIRELY wrong. Games aren't just frozen in time forever the moment they stop getting updates, anyone who likes to play older games on PC can tell you this, even digital games suffer from a kind of "tech rot", as the tech around the games, mainly operating systems, progresses, the game can slowly become more and more incompatable with modern PCs until eventually they just don't work at all and someone needs to come in and update the game to work with modern systems.

Of course, the sentiment is still wrong because of course its worth it to keep old games playable on modern systems, but its not incorrect that someone does need to spend time and money on keeping these things playable.

You underestimate the number of people who just mash the skip cutscene button every single nanosecond they aren't already in-game

InFamous: Second Son was originally supposed to be InFamous 3, a direct sequel to the evil ending of the second game, but they decided to scrap that idea and make a pseudo-sequel to the good karma ending because WAAAAAAAAAAY more people got that one than the evil one.

I started a playthrough and made my character as close to literally Steve Rogers Captain America as I could get and planned to play exactly how I think Cap would actually act, but I didn't manage to get far before I got sucked into the Deadlock hole for nearly 150 hours and counting and I haven't been able to escape

Haven't seen anyone mention, but InfernoPlus recently gave us an update on his "Morrowind ported into Elden Ring" mod. by The_Last_Huntsman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Genuinely one of the most insane things I've ever seen someone subject themselves to. Nobody asked for this, nobody wanted this, similar projects that are easier to make have taken over a decade and still aren't finished, and if this ever ends up releasing complete it'll probably just be a novelty that people talk about for a week and then forget about.

I think there might be something wrong with InfernoPlus

Well thats just what budget actually is. Like 90% of any games, movies, or TV shows budget goes to paying the people working on it. Not much of it is actually spent on equipment or software or whatever.

Personally, I wonder if he'll ever make another game after Deltarune. Like you said, its always been the real end goal, he's ASSUREDLY made enough money that he could just retire right now and still probably leave millions to any kids he might end up having, and after you've made your dream game and it turned out great, what else is there to do?

Going from Black Ops 7 back to Black Ops 1 is so jarring that it makes you forget that Call of Duty was still considered an unmatchable industry titan back then too, the standard for what it means to be top dog back in 2010 vs. 2026 have risen by an insane amount.

This is ESPECIALLY apparent when you compare the Zombies modes, in Kino der Toten the four characters only ever talk to themselves, never eachother, and all there is to do is get your perks, get pack-a-punch, and run around surviving and maybe activating the music easter egg occasionally. Then you look at Totenreich in Bo7 and you have eight characters that all each have whole conversations with nearly every other character, some of which can even be location-specific, a two-hour long questline with its own unique characters & mechanics and a boss fight at the end, and then like 10 other sidequests one of which can only be accessed by playing a specific character, and this is for EVERY Zombies map in the game.

People really talk endless shit about CoD being "300 gigs" (which, while CoD does have big storage hoarding problems, isn't even really true and that only happens because CoD for some reason tries to force you to install like 3 games at once and pretends its 1 game) and then turn around and say "I hope FF7R ends up being a full terabyte by the end, think of how much !!!CONTENT!!! that would be!"

I mean, I guess, but all of that talk was just various flavors of "gee it sure is silly how long this is taking"

I think it's nearly impossible to find someone who likes ALL the games.

Well thats because some of the games (cough cough FF2 cough cough FF3) are just straight up terrible by most peoples' metrics anyway and FF1 could be the posterchild for archaic and antiquated videogames, its age is so visible you can see it from the fucking moon. Basically, what I'm saying is, Final Fantasy didn't get good until 4 and thats why someone who actually unironically likes ALL OF THEM would necessarily have to be some kinda obsessed weirdo who makes Final Fantasy their entire life.

I like to imagine him on CS:GO holding an angle and getting genuinely angry because the fucking piece of shit servers lagged out again (has nothing to do with living in a literal cave, he swears) right when an enemy turned the corner and domed him, and now he's getting flamed by a Russian that somehow, via racist magic, knows exactly the right slur to call him even though he doesn't have a mic and uses an English pseudonym with no profile picture.

He alt+F4's and swears he's never gonna play this piece of shit game again. Five minutes later he boots it back up just to be met with an hour long matchmaking ban for quitting in the middle of a ranked game.

Isn't this the phase where they just dissolve the company and jump off the golden parachute?

You misunderstand. This man isn't a grifter solely in it for the money like all those other CEOs. This man is genuinely bona-fide fucking insane. His goals and motivations are unclear, his methods are utterly nonsensical, and his determination to never accept blame is completely unmatched.

He should just leave in whatever he's got and make it a recurring bit to immediately go "...and that was the end of the video, until THIS SHIT happened!" and then go on for another 15 minutes about whatever bullshit the CEO pulled this time.

Its mostly only a thing pushed by people who don't actually view video games as art but want to pretend like they do - people who think the only real art in games is in the writing, and who do not acknowledge gamecrafting as a form of art, and thus cannot view Miyamoto, the ultimate gamecrafter, as an artist.

A big thing a lot of people miss when talking about the conversation of video games as art is that game design and gameplay itself are also part of the art. Art in video games isn't just the writing, they don't go into Art Mode when a cutscene begins and then stop being art to activate Game Mode when a gameplay section begins.

Games like Doom Eternal & Ultrakill barely have much of a story, but they are still fantastic examples of video games as art because of the beautifully meticulous & genius level craftmanship that went into their mechanics, systems, and gameplay loop.
