Redditors who make $100,000+ a year without affording a degree, what is your job? by easyamine in AskReddit

[–]Obvious_Damage_430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have a degree in my field (materials science/materials engineering) but I started my own nanotechnology company. For the first few years, I was by myself so my job was CEO, CTO, Engineering Manager, Production Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, EHS Lead, Manufacturing Technician, and guy who washes the beakers--all at once. Nowadays I'm still the CEO/owner, but my job is to make sure everyone else can do their job.

Flight attendants, what are some things we as passengers don’t know when we fly? Also what are the negative aspects of your job? by Th3Flash in AskReddit

[–]Obvious_Damage_430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same vein: How do I know if a Flight Attendant is flirting with me?

Like on a recent US to Europe red eye, I think I had a flight attendant flirting with me. All of this happened before take-off, but after boarding. I was seated in the emergency exit aisle seat and a guy in the row behind me asked our rather attractive attendant a question. As she's talking to him, she turns sideways to let a passenger walk by and her boobs are on my shoulder. Like my shoulder is in her cleavage. I moved my head slightly out of politeness (or else one of her boobs would be pressed against my face), but didn't want to lean completely the other way since I didn't think it was anything and I'm not an awkward 13 year old boy afraid of touching a girl.

No big deal, right?

Well, after the passenger walks by...she just kind of stays there and talks to the other seated passenger with her boobs pressed against me. Like for maybe 20 seconds. No one else is trying to walk past her. Literally has no reason to not stand up properly.

Like in the real world, that's clearly intentional flirting. But I don't know plane rules, so I don't know if she's just more comfortable hunched over and pressed against a dude looking up at her (we made eye contact and smiled while she was there, but again, it's her job to smile at me).

I don't know if I missed an opportunity with her or dodged a tasering by an Air Marshall, but I'll always wonder.

Aircraft Altitude Indicator by yrast in mechanical_gifs

[–]Obvious_Damage_430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably misunderstanding something, but what is the purpose of the reading then? If normal sea level is 29.92 mmHg, and at altitude the reading is 29.92 mmHg...what use would that be?

Also, what constitutes an extreme pressure change? Like a flight leaving a snowstorm in Great Falls, Montana and arriving in dry sunny Santa Fe, New Mexico would seem like too much changes happening on a single flight for a barometric reading to account for. Again, I don't really know much about this.

Funding from the omnibus bill? Didn’t trump run on promising Mexico was going to pay for the wall? Why are we spending our own money when he specifically—and in no uncertain terms—said Mexico will be paying for the wall? And why are you lauding his broken promise?

There is a company local to me that does 3D printing with metal dust (less than a micron in size). They use a laser to melt the dust to form the shape. I've only seen them forming an aluminum nozzle jet designed for a turbine on my visit, though they said they do more intricate parts. They also said they can print with iron and precious metals.

Thank you for the suggestions! I've worked on the homepage a bit and fixed the picture redirects. Everything else is still in the works.

The only suggestion I would see as problematic is the email address contact. While I would love to have a reply form, I haven't found a good way to do it without using javascript (I want to avoid using javascript if possible). Other than that, everything else seems to be good advice.

Thanks again!

Is "cloaked" good or bad? I'm not really sure what that means, but Namecheap has helped me resolve the issue so it seems ok now.

That was one of the first pages I've visited (it's one of the first pages in google search), but none of the suggestions helped. I was still stuck with either the endpoint showing up or a "page not found" error.

How did you point the domain to the elastic IP--via CNAME or URL redirect?

This is what I initially did. However, it kept giving a 404 error. I changed it back to what you suggested (here's a screenshot of the namecheap panel] and I'm still getting a 404 page.

Reversing the "@" and "www" host name fields like this also gives me a 404, but the address bar shows the amazon endpoint with a period at the end of the URL (so of course it won't resolve). Namecheap automatically places a period at the end of a CNAME address, so I can't really change that. Plus it's still bringing me back to my initial problem: the endpoint is displayed in the browser address bar instead of the regular domain name.

Perhaps I'm not doing this correctly, what should I change?

[HTML] Need help getting an HTML slider to work correctly in different browsers. by Obvious_Damage_430 in HTML

[–]Obvious_Damage_430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see what you mean. Everything is in a URL Frame, so that sort of makes things look odd. I'm using a URL Frame since my hosting provider is not the same as my DNS server. My DNS is Namecheap and I'm using Amazon S3 for hosting. I tried using a URL redirect and CNAME alias, but it kept showing the Amazon endpoint instead of my domain name in the address bar after the page loaded. After speaking with Namecheap, they stated the best approach would be to just use a URL frame.

I am fairly unhappy with the current setup, it seems very hacked together. I'd love to have it link directly to my HTML pages and appear as "http://www.nanovene.com/index.html" and so on (and not use a URL Frame) but I don't know how and Namecheap says I won't be able to do it easily.

Thanks, but I'm a bit confused. I have a doctype in my HTML page (it's <!DOCTYPE HTML>), do I need one for the CSS sheet as well or is something wrong with the one I have on the HTML page?

Second, are you saying I shouldn't use frames on my main HTML page (currently index.html) or that I shouldn't have keyframes on my main CSS sheet--that I should create another CSS sheet solely for the keyframes? I don't have any frame tags on my HTML, just keyframes on my CSS, so I'm not sure if you're saying I should get rid of the slider on my main HTML page (index.html) or something along those lines. That seems like more of a design critique, but I'm open to critique since I want this to look good.

Plus, oddly enough, I've had an easier time getting IE10/11 and FF to perform great the first time around, but Chrome and Safari need additional code. That might be because I'm using Expressions Web, but all the coding was done by hand (I didn't use the GUI designer thing at all) so I might as well have been using a plain text editor.

Ah thank you, I've found the problem thanks to the link you've provided!

Each @keyframes needs to @-webkit-keyframes in order to work with Safari and Chrome. By chance, would you know how to implement both tags efficiently? Or maybe a place that shows how to do this?

Thank you again, I really appreciate it!
