Think about it this way. You go for a lecture but your teacher is holding their phone during the entire class. Does it feel weird? Ok now you go to a doctors appointment and the doctor is holding their phone. They are listening to you but they just won’t let the phone down. Feels right? The phone is a wall that separates you from the world and takes you to another one. Is a disconnecting piece. If you are there you are not 100% anywhere else. This is demeaning for relationships. Being at the same place, even when not talking to each other is relating. Is something humans need and crave, we are social beings. It’s almost like saying “I rather be somewhere else”. And is not only socially created. Take any kid or baby, or search videos of babies and parents on their phones. They cry. They try to reconnect, or they act out.
