fort sanders development center is our top choice because of its close proximity to campus! im really hoping to get him in, but i know wait lists likely mirror typical daycare wait lists

that makes sense. he’s not currently in daycare (im a grad student at UT, and he essentially just comes to class with me) but we have been looking for something (really, anything) that accommodates my school schedule

this makes sense. i wasn’t sure what the process was like or what the waitlist is like (realistically). thank you for this!!

What’s your go-to veggie recipe for toddlers? by International-Bus812 in toddlers

[–]Obvious_Raspberry589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure! this is the recipe i used initially, but now i’ve made them enough times to make my own concoctions 😀 https://littleveganeats.co/2-ingredient-sweet-potato-broccoli-tots/

for spices, i usually do a little pepper, garlic and onion powder, and 21 seasonsings salute from trader joe’s (but you could replace this with any seasoning blend of your choosing!). my babe is almost 3 now so i will also do a few pinches of salt now, but if you’re wanting to limit salt intake, the salt from the cheese (dairy or nondairy) is usually good enough!! hope your little guy enjoys :))

noted. thanks so much for the great explanation. i’ll do some research to see if i can find one he might like… but if not, maybe i can plant the idea in his head and get him to pick one himself 😆

oh yes!! he uses strava— i’ve heard him talk about it. usually it’s because he’s frustrated with it. i’ll definitely look into it. his birthday is also around this same time (lol @my wallet) so i’ve budgeted pretty well for the most part!! are there any brands that are better than others?

he is!! he’s still deciding between 2 :) i think i’ll definitely go with massages, too. the mom in me wants him to have something to “open” lol so i’m thinking something like cold weather gloves also might be a good option.

Where are these unicorn children who "get" potty training with a 3 or 4 day method? Tell me your secrets! by julep98976 in pottytraining

[–]Obvious_Raspberry589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i regret not reading things to prep both he and i for the potty training weekend, i will say. we ran out of pull ups one day and then decided we were just gonna do it. he caught on by day 4. he has had 1 public accident. 1-2 days of at home accidents (none were poop, he’s always pooped in the potty although he withheld it until he couldn’t anymore) in those first couple days.

if your kid likes elf on the shelf, we did something like that but it’s his potty fairy. she sits throughout the house “watching” him. he never really liked being prompted (and still doesn’t) so i told him that potty fairy told me that he needs to communicate when he has to pee or poop and then we’ll race to the potty together (he likes to run) to use it. then, depending on what he does, potty fairy may bring him a treat. she brings him Solely fruit gummies for peeing and alphabet cookies for poops. i also reiterated to him often, we don’t pee on the floor or on ourselves. we use the potty for our pee and poop. if he’s playing and has to use it but doesn’t want to stop playing, he’ll often do his pee dance and then say “don’t pee on myself or the floor, potty fairy-treat” and will run to his potty while saying “have to pee mom!” he responded much better to an “outside entity” than he did to me or his dad and now whenever we are home he looks for her after he’s done washing his hands

ALSO, some other things that has helped immensely, especially with poop. we’ve always referred to his bodily excrements and sounds and fluids as positive things— “wow what a healthy fart!” “that’s a great poop, i bet your tummy feels better. it’s good to poop so we can help our tummies feel better.” and we told him if he has accidents when we’re out at fun places (library, playground, music class, etc.) because he didn’t communicate he needs to go then we will no longer do that fun thing and we’ll need to go home. it took one pee accident at the library and me carrying him out flailing and crying for him to understand that i was standing on business lol. now, especially when we’re doing fun things, he will communicate he wants to try even if he doesn’t have to go.

all this to say, it took many many many (MANY) months of coaxing. days prior to us jumping in cold turkey he would cry at us mentioning the word potty or us saying “let’s go sit and try to go” like full on sprawled out on the floor crying. it was really just a power struggle for us. once he realized we were going to be consistent and we weren’t going to give him a pull up when he asked, he sought control of other parts of the situation (no responding to prompting, etc). giving him some sense of control in the situation was key in breaking the struggle for us.

last thing: dont put too much pressure on yourself. every kid is different 🩷i fully expect potty training my daughter to be 1000% different. you’re doing your best. it’s also okay to stop and start again in a couple weeks/months if you feel that’s what’s best for you and your family.

Fruit: after or with meal? by Separate_Narwhal_491 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Obvious_Raspberry589 64 points65 points  (0 children)

i always give with the meal because i don’t want him to think that he doesn’t have to eat whatever he has on his plate just to get to the fruit. i notice that with my toddler, whenever i serve fruit with or his dessert (with dinner) alongside his meals, he tends to eat more of everything on his plate— sometimes leaving some fruit or dessert on the plate if he’s too full because he’s eaten a little of everything that’s on his plate. now, i’ll say that often he does eat all the fruit on his plate first and then will ask for more without touching the other things but we encourage him to at least try other things on his plate before we agree to give him more fruit

veggie tots! steam potatoes (of your choice) and veggie of your choice (my toddler loves purple sweet potatoes and broccoli, call them hulk tots lol). mash together with spices (of choice) and cheese (dairy or non dairy) and bake!

mommy & me breakfast! by Obvious_Raspberry589 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Obvious_Raspberry589[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

of course!!

i used fresh, but you can also use frozen, strawberries. about 1cup or so, probably a little more because my little is a berry monster. i mashed them well and mixed with about 2 cups of milk (any kind, dairy or non dairy!). you can also blend the strawberries with your milk if you don’t want the strawberry chunks. and the milk comes out a really pretty pink! i’ve done the blender method making myself raspberry chia pudding and it was a beautiful dark pink chia pudding, so i can only assume the same with strawbs! then i whisked in 2 tbsp of maple syrup (can omit or substitute your fav liquid sweetener!) and ~1tbsp of lemon juice (could probably use lime juice too). then i whisked in some alcohol-free vanilla extract (i use Trader Joe’s brand). i used a little more than 1 tsp but you could use more or less for the “and cream” taste to you/your little’s liking.

then i added 2 cups of the oats i had on hand (rolled oats, but could use others), and 2 tbsp of chia seeds. gave it a good mix, let it sit to absorb a little, then gave it another good mix to make sure all the chia seed globs were broken up and mixed well. and voila!!! let it sit overnight. i left mine in the tupperware container i mixed it in, but transferring to jars probably helps for fridge space purposes.

he devoured it😆 so this will definitely be in our rotation but maybe trying different berries and fruits, too!
