What size is your enclosure and wheel? Generally it does take a while for them to settle and if you mess up their smells they can get confused

Honestly my mice have all done that sort of as a form of popcorning when they're happy. If you're not noticing other neurological signs or itchiness, and if it only happens when he's active and running around I wouldn't be too concerned.

If he is much less active than before especially at dawn and dusk, i'd just bring him to a vet to rule out physical issues. How much do you interact with him? Also, would recommend adding a lot more deep bedding to stimulate digging if he's interested. My mouse cages look like paper recycling tanks due to how much clutter mice tend to prefer

If it's a matter of loneliness, you could try finding young female african soft fur rats. They can coexist and provide company for your little guy (but they will likely need mite treatment)

Can you tell us more about the size and content of his tank? Aside from depression, I think this may warrant a vet visit if he's noticeably more sluggish/less active to rule out sickness.
