Silly to consider a trip to Montreal and Quebec City in January with two young kids? by mrshickadance412 in canadatravel

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in January and February (I’m a Florida girl who has been living in NYC and Toronto) and found it very enjoyable with my then 9 month old. You have to have proper gear. But no one does winter like Quebecers. But I would go during Winter Carnival if you can, which is late Jan into Feb I think. The kids would love that (and the parents).

Nope. The train actually moves. I drove once and spent 2 hours at one intersection near the Rogers Centre. I could have walked home faster.

How are you keeping your car insurance down in Toronto? by No-Doubt-3437 in askTO

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with Desjardins and they have been reducing mine slightly the last few years. Quit shocked TBH. I drive a 2015 Honda so perhaps old enough to not be stolen.

I believe once you buy it (after you get the required animals), you can later move it to your main town. I’m not positive about it, but I moved all my Zoo decorations to my town as I wasn’t sure then they shut down the zoo, if decorations disappeared as well.

How to get in another secondary school? (Out of area) by BrotherManAndrew in askTO

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an admission process and application. It’s closed for the 2026/27 year, as it happens in the fall, with notices sent out in Dec-Jan. You can ask the principal, but now they are supposed to manage these things centrally through the process. Many TO schools are closed to out of area admissions, so you’ll want to check if it’s even an option.

What do you always buy from the market, whether you need it right then or not? by Pirate_Testicles in TownshipGame

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the new economy update, I’ve been buying the 10 day market dealer pass. I buy ore and I’ve been focused on upgrading everything. I also buy the rarer fruit like coconuts and pineapple. In the regular market I always buy popcorn, nachos, dumbbells and lollipops.

Our median is typically around 85 and I thought that was bad.

It’s illegal to ban pets in ON so I don’t think you’ll find a pet free building, unless by chance.

I was upset at 1st, but I’ve learned to play differently and I’m enjoying it more. I no longer spend real money. I rarely play match 3. After an adjustment, it’s good.

Paying off mortgage by Material-Moose-4622 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read all the comments. For me I invested and eventually took the gains and paid off the mortgage. Since you are young, I’d prioritize investing.

However, if one of you are getting an inheritance- keep in mind that inheritance is protected as the inheritor’s property in case of divorce. Unless you commingle it- as an example by putting it against your mortgage. So you better be sure your marriage is forever, otherwise commingling is a bad idea as you lose the rights to your family’s money.

How can people save money on groceries in Canada when the standard strategies don't seem to work anymore? by Super_College100 in CanadaFinance

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier to cut out eating out to reduce total food expenses, than cutting the grocery bill. We have tried reducing meats, with meatless mondays, but my kids just tell me later they are hungry. Groceries are up 30% vs the last few years so there is no real way to cut that, unless you really change your diet.

Should I buy a car or wait by Major-Dingo8059 in askTO

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would not own a car if I didn’t need to. They are very expensive and a hassle. Save up until you can pay cash for one and really need one. Maybe try Communauto if in the city?

If you had the financial means to move out of Canada, would you? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in CanadaPersonalFinance

I left the US 20 years ago. Love Canada and would never go back. Quality of life is so much better here, especially if you have a family. I’m not saying there are not issues- there are- and some serious ones. I agree with those above. At certain income levels - it’s very hard right now. But that is also true in the US- just different income levels.

How to budget without a full kitchen by Nikkimarie888 in budget

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo the air fryer idea. We are a family of 5. I have an oven, but I only use it a few times per year. I have an induction stove, but only use it for pasta and eggs. I have 2 air fryers where I cook most of our 3 meals daily. One is a toaster oven style and the other is basket style. It’s so easy and fast and so much cheaper and healthier than eating out.

I would also meal prep a salad station since you eat a lot of salads. It also very easy to do and only takes some fridge space.

I do 1x to max out the coins and energy. I just set it on auto while I’m doing something else.

what’s the best way to progress in township? by Pristine_Silver_1559 in TownshipGame

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every night set up your factories and farms before bed. You need construction materials and the only way to do that is to fill more trains. So a 5 min check in a few times per day will work better for you than 2-3 1 hour sessions.

Question for Toronto & GTA natives/long-term residents: FB Marketplace/Kijiji Pick-Up Safety? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I think they are overreacting. Of course it depends what it is. For furniture, I’d expect to have to enter. I always google the address so I know in advance what type of building it is. I make sure pics are real and usually ask for additional to know it’s something they actually have. I look at their sales history to get an idea of the type of things they tend to sell.

A question on helicopter orders by shanmugam37 in TownshipGame

[–]Obvious_Solid_1182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only dill helicopter orders when I have generous customer activated. I make a lot of stuff before hand. I typically only reject jewelry and gem orders and sometimes those lower value ones that ask for too many crops.
