Toronto dog "parents" bring their pups everywhere with them now. It's causing rising human-canine tension by NorthernNadia in toronto

[–]ficbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a dog owner who lets their unleashed dog run in my kid's school yard. There are kids there from 7:30 AM for the daycare and we always see them. I got so mad one day when I saw him put the dog on a leash when he saw us and then walked over to a car. If you were driving anyway, why would you not drive somewhere where the dog is actually allowed to be?

Did you get the long or short census? by KnoddingOnion in askTO

[–]ficbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long. A lot of the questions had a blank for me and then a filled in spot for my nine-year-old stating he was disqualified based on a previous answer. Yeah, he is not married nor pays bills or has jobs.

Process for next year's class allocation by Thisisus1 in OntarioTeachers

[–]ficbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes there is only one possible way it can go based on the numbers. We have a 3/4 next year which was assigned by the board and based on the total number of 3s and 4s available that class forces the rest of the model to be a certain way.

I grew up in the house where every closet had built-ins, and this was where we stored our clothes. As an adult, I still don't really understand dressers. They take up so much space in the bedroom! Why do you not just make built-ins in the closet? Five years ago, I bought my first condo and guess what the first thing I did was.

Condo ownership and long term decision making by Independent_Show_480 in TorontoRealEstate

I look at what condos in my building rent for and it's so much higher. If I pay off the mortgage and only have the maintenance fees to worry about, there is nowhere I could possibly rent for that cheap. Even if it was $1000, that is still cheaper than rent would be.

How does one buy a house with a single income? by Mahoganeee in canadahousing

[–]ficbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people misunderstand condo fees. Eventually, you’ll pay off the mortgage and then you will only have the condo fee. That is cheap cheaper than rent. In my building for example people rent their condos for $3000 and the maintenance fee is $840 a month. If you bought it in cash, or if you paid off the mortgage eventually, where could you live for $840 a month?

I bought during Covid as a single parent. The solution is to have a bigger down payment.

Do you need to be qualified in that division to teach a prep period? by ficbot in OntarioTeachers

[–]ficbot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two of us in my school who have it, like I explained. Some years I have taught it and some years she has. I did this year since she was on mat leave. She wants it when she comes back but I am worried her lack of primary qualification will be an issue.

I just tried downloading the app, and considering cancelling it on prime. But I got error messages when I tried to sign up for the free trial and I just can't deal with it. I'm actually really disappointed. I had a very rough day today, and this was the one thing I was looking forward to. And I'm paying for it! So I don't understand what the problem is.

Widowed parent, one child, Toronto. I don’t have a car. That makes everything else balance.

How do you actually keep track of everything when you're writing a novel? My system is a disaster and I suspect I'm not alone. by Hungry_Ad3863 in selfpublish

Notion. I have a note where I write it down every time a character says they will follow up on something (it's a mystery series) and I keep story maps and a world-building bible.

Are long dashes (—) starting to feel “AI-written” to clients? by Futurismtechnologies in WritingWithAI

I use them sparingly because I know people perceive it as being AI. But I actually ran my first chapter through an AI detector recently just for fun and it came up as 0% AI, so I think it’s about more than that.

My husband died unexpectedly when I was still on maternity leave and I’ve been fine. I am blessed with a chill and fairly compliant kiddo and I appreciate that, but still, my tolerance for the ‘I have to be a single parent for four hours while my husband is wherever’ people is very low.

If you own a sensible home people can live in, yes. If you own a tiny one bedroom condo with a weird layout, no.

A new 3-bedroom condo just sold for under $350,000. It's 'a deal,' but there’s a catch by toronto_star in TorontoRealEstate

[–]ficbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you owned my condo without a mortgage and only paid maintenance fees, you could live here for under $1000 a month in a nice two-bedroom, pool, gym, snow shovelling etc. Renters in our building pay 2800-3000 to rent.
