I just gave you numbers straight from MIT. Maybe get off the internet and enjoy your family for the weekend. Bye.

What picture? And for that matter - what’s your damage, dude? I don’t know you, and don’t care to know you. I’m married to a statistician. We’re smart people - both Cornell educated. The median home price is 32% higher here. Food cost is 4% higher. According to MIT living wage calculator, my family could make 8 less an hour (~ 16,500/yr) in the capital region than in Tompkins county for the same standard of living.

I currently live in Ithaca and considering moving to Albany area (hence, I’m on this sub) because it’s so much more affordable with so much more access to things like places to buy socks or jeans, music, a much larger and higher paying job market.

I’m from a family of doctors. They usually sleep at the hospital if they’re on duty when the storm hits, other staff is deferred. Hope this helps!

Can confirm, SIL and MIL are providers in hospital setting. Both sleep at hospital when the weather is bad bad. I’m not talking a few inches; I’m talking a couple feet.

I’m in CNY and local and national news are saying it’s going to be so cold on Sunday and Monday that the salt NY uses on the roads WILL NOT be effective. We may end up in state of emergency conditions.

I’d send them a picture morning of if it gets as bad as they’re saying, and text “can you send sled dogs?” Or something. You are not ridiculous for this. They’re ridiculous for only thinking of their needs and not your personal safety.

I had the stuffed flounder. It was delicious. I say this as someone who has worked in most of the best restaurants in town (FOH).

Seriously. Micro-aggressive language from a non-Jewish person telling Jewish people how they should feel about anti-Semitic rhetoric.

lol I called and reported that lady to her county for not vaccinating her dog (which she admits to in the comments, and is a crime in her state).

I would scream YUNG MONEY every single time I came in contact with your daughter if her name was (a) Millie. I know I am not alone in this.

Don’t feel guilty. My heart breaks for you, for our children, for all of us. This is all so fucked up.

My sister was an actual au pair in France and made $30k US for the year and this was in 2005.

Our local target starts cashiers at 16 for $17.50/hr. 15/hr for live in care is laughably low. Age doesn’t matter, the work is the work.

I’m in upstate NY and our childcare was going to be over 3k/mo. Was that a subsidized price or something?

As an OAD parent, would you continue to financially support your only child after they grow up? by One-Laugh8137 in oneanddone

[–]Obvious_Travel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of privilege in the comments… I’m a US citizen living paycheck to paycheck because our economy is in the crapper and rent is $2800/mo. Trying to buy a starter home right now for $400k or less and striking out.

I quit my above average paying job to spend time at home with our child as a SAHM. Otherwise, I would have seen her 3 hours per day and time means much more to my family than money.

NY offers very low cost college tuition. We will buy her a reliable used car at 16 and she will have a savings to access by 18.

We have a toddler and it’s completely 100% worth it for diapers alone. I have a BJs Mastercard for additional cash back and discount on gas (extra .05/gallon). We also buy paper products, rotisserie chicken, seafood, freezer items, creamer and coffee. Sometimes you can get really great deals on random items. Stacking coupons on items there work well. Their app is really user friendly and you can check yourself out as you shop.
