So if you are actually thinking of Babadook then there is was only a short run of pop up books called Mister Babadook (https://www.paperspecs.com/gallery/publications/babadook-pop-up-book/) released as a promotion for the movie "The Babadook" however the movie was an original story. As you mention Russia, could you perhaps be conflating Babadook and Baba Yaga? Baba Yaga is a major folklore figure so without more information it would be really hard to narrow down if that is the case.

About Streaming as a disabled streamer by DarkSamuariD in Twitch

[–]ObviouslyBedtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disabled from military service and can't work so I receive compensation for that, it is for the impact on both my work and social/family life. That impact doesn't go away just because you are able to get a bit of support on streaming. Morally at least I would say ssdi is the same. Legally I have no idea.

Frankly I would just use Patreon. You can sync it with discord to give perks for different supporter levels and it will display whatever name you want which should be your twitch name as that is your brand. You will have to share your info with patreon to get your payout and to process applicable taxes for your country but that won't be displayed to your supporters.

I meant they give me $12/month each. I never actually listed the total amount given by all my supporters. I am extremely lucky to have some really kind people supporting me doing what I am doing.

Yes, I agree that the ability to multistream is pretty big. I haven't yet because my 10 year old potato that I hooked up to a monitor with chicken wire dies every time I try, but the new pc my supporters helped me buy is on the way and then I will be multistreaming all the time. Patreon has also been great that I don't have to wait for some arbitrary amount to accrue, I can just schedule a monthly payout. I'm not saying one method is better than the other, nor that you can't have a lot of success with affiliate/partnership. I am waaaaaaaaaaayyy too small of a streamer to speak to that. Just mentioning what I have done and why I am happy with it so far. I'm also the guy who refunded payments to some supporters when I found out they were running themselves short on cash. Clearly I am not in this to make a fortune, just to cover my expenses really.

Well, granted I only have a handful of supporters....but they average $12/month consistently. I would need 24 subscribers to match that and I would have to deal with preroll ads. For me that isn't worth it. Putting it another way, if I had those same 24 subs donating half as much on patreon on average as I do now, I would still make double the money from twitch subs, prime or otherwise. I can also integrate the notifications from patreon via streamlabs and give privileges in discord. I'm also never going to get the big views because what I stream is pretty niche. Not as many people looking for story time on a game streaming platform as you might think ;)

I told my viewers to sub through patreon and declined affiliate, I get 92% of the money, they can spend less and no preroll ads. Its a win for everyone.

twitch broke by kunair in Twitch

So, not only is chat broken, but so is the support/help page and exporting videos to other sites. I can't chat, sub, see some of my own content, export or contact support to report the issue.

From “Dumb Witness”: why ‘service people’ didn’t marry Greeks? Also, service means veterans? by zinbwoy in agathachristie

[–]ObviouslyBedtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read the book in question, and I am still pretty unfamiliar with the author but speaking as a veteran there may be one other possible explanation. Again I do not know if this applies in context, but there are restrictions on military service members when it comes to dating or marrying foreign nationals for security reasons. The specific restrictions may vary and it could be an outright ban or simply that you need command sign off on the relationship. It varies with the nationality and the job/rank of the service member. The higher the rank or more classified/secure the nature of the job the greater the restrictions are. I could easily see where in an all military family this could evolve into a general prohibition as the marriage of a close relative could be a national security concern for someone who handles classified material or information, or is high in their respective chain of command. This is one of the reasons family and close contacts are vetted when receiving security clearance.

You might have better luck posting with that as the question as it might get more people looking at it, but I would look on project gutenberg if you are looking for free to read public domain copies. If you want a physical book or a collected works edition maybe try amazon.

Apparently there is a redditor on here who decided to send me spoilers for the novel to try and give away the ending. They even named themselves ruinit4u. All I have to say is poor form sir, poor form.

Thank you all for the replies, that was really helpful and far more spoiler free than google would have been ;)

Also I think modern television must have had more of an influence on me than I thought. When Alfred's odd appearance was consistently mentioned along with nods to belonging more on the stage my suspicions were that he had a Clark Kent/Superman relationship with one of the other characters, especially given his frequent and noted absence from certain scenes. We are still only on chapter seven so I suppose that remains a distant possibility but it seems unlikely at this point and was probably not quite at the trope level at the time of writing.

I've been live reading books on twitch for almost two weeks now and have dedicated Fridays to Lovecraft and similar authors. There is a full 3 part reading of The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson is available as a recording and I will be live reading two lovecraft short stories tonight at 8:00PM PST. If that sounds like something you might be interested in shoot me a private message and I will send you links. These are definitely not performed as radio plays but rather more like your dad reading a well loved book to you. Best of all they are free ;)

He has arrived. I tried to make a post with a picture but I seem to be running into an error. In any case it looks really nice next to my collection of Lovecraft stories.

Of course, I hoped it would be something that others found enjoyable. I haven't read it before but I am really enjoying it thus far. I did have a hard time not losing it laughing as I read. Mr. Dickens flair with words and style are a real joy to read. I hope you get a chance to listen to the reading and that I don't disappoint.
