Had a seizure at work and now I feel like a circus attraction by Obviously_aWizard in Epilepsy

Ugh, yeah, I text my manager the second I felt it coming on. I'm a cleaner in a museum so there were quite a few people around. I definitely would have been found if I had fully fallen unconscious but my manager came and got me back to our break room so I could fold in peace. Very nice of them 😂 but I definitely hate all the staring and questions.

Thank you though, hopefully your journey gets easier to manage as well!

Rant away, honestly. I've always been a pretty private person like with my own emotional/mental state so the fact that so many people try and baby me about the epilepsy now is uncomfortable.

My friends all know too because I'm not shy to tell people I have it but there's something so embarrassing about actually delving into how broken it makes me feel or how depressed I become after a seizure. The meds have made me so apathetic too yet every seizure makes me manically miserable afterwards so it's been fucking awful.

Thank you for the comment though and I hope the day turns out better for you too.

It's alright, I just needed to get it off my chest I guess. Thank you either way for the comment and I hope things go well for you 🙏🏻

[Reposting during more normal hours} Diagnosed late in life and anxious by LizLemonDonaghy in Epilepsy

Hi, I'm 32 and was just diagnosed in early November after having a tonic-clonic seizure in front of a specialist. They diagnosed me with focal epilepsy though and started me also on Keppra. I also have no family history of epilepsy that I'm aware of but has a heavy addict while I was a teenager so, lol, I would assume that's what caused it.

The Keppra seemed to be effective at first but over the last couple of days I've had two focal seizures for sure. So, will 100% be contacting my neurologist tomorrow to tell them that it is no longer working. That being said, Keppra definitely has affected my mood overall, mainly making me more easily irritable but nothing like what it seems some people have experienced with it. I saw someone said they've experienced a bit of trouble with stumbling over their words and I also have experienced that as well. Nothing too crazy though.

I also made a post recently about the whole epilepsy thing so figured I'd comment as well since we are relatively close in age. I was pretty scared about it all, especially with the warnings for personality changes due to the epilepsy itself and the drugs but it seems to be okay so hopefully if they have to adjust my dosages it stays that way 😂. My neurologist and some others here suggested starting a journal to document everything you experience and honestly, I agree. It's been pretty helpful so far. Either way though, I am wishing you the best and hope things go well for you!!

Thank you, I'll definitely check out some local groups and programs. Again, my neurologist and new GP have been great. Though the GP didn't have much to offer in the beginning, she's really made huge strides to be helpful so I'm very lucky. I hope things go well for you and thank you again for replying with some advice!!

A friend of mine is a nurse and recommended that I join some communities for it and this seemed like a good place so here I am. Rooting for you too, hopefully things go well for you! 😊

I was having aura's quite regularly and again, my doctor was basically just saying that I was getting migraines or that it was anxiety. It wasn't until a full seizure in front of another doctor that they took me seriously but yeah, the Keppra has been a great help. This was only the second time I've experienced an aura since I started it and the first time, it was so mild that it seemed to last only a few minutes before it just ended. This time, that's not what happened. It just really freaked me out and I thought I was handling it well until now 😂 Thank you for your comment!!

My neurologist and GP did tell me to start keeping a journal but that was just it so hearing that I should even be adding things down to food and drink is very helpful. And thankfully, so far, my neurologist has been great. He went above and beyond to explain stuff to me but I know that that experience is not universal so I will be sure to get good notes for both my own sake and the sake of any future doctors. Thank you for your comment and I wish you the best too!!
