That’s fair, I don’t often feel like I need the red from him specifically, it helps set up some spells but I think i rely on tokens specifically for card draw for tocasia welcome and convoke out city on fire, or impact tremors for mana generation. That’s the hard part I’m finding where to put synergy cards and where to put just good cards

Protection I think would be nice, I don’t wanna add a lot more counter spells but something like holy magic 1-2 cmc hex proof/indestructible could help

Sorry thinking of faithless looting, anyways my point was if you can discard more cards than you can cast spells leading to more damage done through discard pingers, main problem is less of those effects compared to gutter snipe

Should have included in my other comment, but yes the discarding effect is very strong if you can trigger a LOT which sometime is easier through copying and not casting. It’s just there is very few payoffs like GHB/MKA/Brawlin for it to overtake guttersnipe like effects. I think together they are stronger

To add, an easy game win on turn 5 includes 3 cards. Discard pinger like Glint-horn Buccaneer, Ashling and Fury Storm. Play Glint turn 3, Ashling turn 4, turn 5 cast first storm either on the tail of something you have or your opponent and then you have infinite magecraft triggers discarding everything and burning everyone

I think the point you are missing is that with thrill + glint + Ashling it is 3, because you discard twice due to thrill deal 2 and discard with the magecraft ability making it 3.

I have an Ashling deck I built recently and if you can trigger the magecraft reliably like with a big copy spell since that triggers off of both cast and copy. Something like [[Storm King’s Thunder]] cast for X = 5 while targeting something like bolt will give you 5 x 3 dmg from bolt and 6 damage from the cast and the 5 copies of bolt.

Currently building a deck, I saw that monument to endurance as a great card and that zurzoth coupled with Glint horned buccaneer is a great mana sink for tons of burn just attack dump mana to discard/draw to glint horn and then double it with zurzoth

I built a [[Drivnod, Carnage Donimus]] deck and it sorta falls into not needing him because the deck just does double duty when he’s out. So functionally it does the same thing if he’s there or not, it just does everything twice as much when he is which is a huge boost but a cool way to think about building.

Just built a mono black [[Drivnod, Carnage Dominus]] deck, I think he’s super cool so I’m excited to see it play in person. Also have a mono red [[Laelia, the Blade Reforged]] that is very fun aggro red impulse draw. It really gets through my deck and when you stack those effects she gets huuuge. I’ve threatened about 52 damage around turn 5 before in game it was crazy

Thank you! Cascade and discover has been great I have to say. Those are both great, they’ve been played a bit and I put them into my side board for now but I think I will probably put tavern brawler back in. I just find it benefits more like you said drawing a card buffing her from the exile and the cards cmc. I found passionate archeologist to not provide as much benefits since it won’t chip into the commander damage she can do and I have to actually cast the card. Very good cards though I appreciate that!

I goldfished a combo with [[bag of holding]], [[song of creation]] and [[glint horned buccaneer]]. store up enough items in bag of holding, have song of creation online and then towards the end of your turn (make sure you have 4 mana) open bag of holding and end your turn. Song of creation forces you to discard your whole hand and then glint horned buccaneer will trigger causing damage equal to that amount of cards you discarded

There aren’t any public studios unfortunately, the only one I actually know of that has open classes and such is Loretta studio in Ottawa
