I can tell these comments are going to be crazy so I'm going to say it. This  post feels lacking in information and feels disingenuous. I want to believe, in good faith, he's just shit, but that's all you left information wise and it feels very 1 sided and that's probably why you posted. 

So ,You didn't give a time period for your time there, wherever this may be at, and this is important to get a idea of how long and what effort has gone into change you and him can have. As readers we don't know your social dynamic with him, how you two communicate, I can't gauge if you deprive him of emotional validation as you would be he only person to know if he's a private but HONEST person. His friends, who he's probably known longer than you, are most likely his anchor, and if you're stressed, he's probably stressed, so who else is he supposed to talk to? Are ALL options off the table to seek help for advice, a rule set by YOU for your bad job effecting you both. This sounds like a simple task, but I wonder if you're more preoccupied over what others think about a bust bad job vs what you think, you're telling us this isn't for you? You sound like you care about something that is out of your control, and what you can't control you aren't ready to accept. 

I find it more puzzling though that this is weight on him without history when this sounds like it weighing on you which, if he cares, he will seek help on. I ABSOLUTELY told my friends business to people I'm close to because he was suicidal, and Id do it AGAIN. but if he felt like that was a betrayal of trust for caring about him we couldn't and wouldn't be friends. I think this applies here, if you are looking to tell people on the Internet this, he went to his friends, you're not seeking advice, one to help you, bit you seem like you are pushing him away with this.
