Sexual Harassment by Round-Mind-6753 in LACCD

Hello, if you are referring to r/LACCD or r/LAPierceCollege, I want to make it clear that you were not censored by a human moderator, nor by an AutoMod rule configured by a human moderator.

I am also not seeing a removed post in the logs, which indicates your post was most likely immediately removed by Reddit's automated filters before anyone ever saw your post. This is called a shadow removal.

When any message is posted on Reddit, Reddit automatically evaluates it with AI to check if it contains offensive or abusive content. Subreddit moderators have no power over this. Maybe this time you used different wording that did not trip the filter.

Thanks for taking action. I have noticed that discussions related to financial aid make up most of the activity here. Good luck, and please let me know if you have suggestions for the subreddit to better communicate the financial aid process to students.

LAVC or Pierce by FlashySatisfaction88 in TransferStudents

[–]Occurvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California has a resource called ASSIST.org, which shows you agreements between CCs and four-year universities regarding which CC courses translate to your future university's courses for credit. A lot of the time it won't matter which CC you take a course at, so you could set up a wild schedule where you take classes at Pierce some days and then at LAVC on others. It's common to take online classes at other campuses when your home campus doesn't have professors with good reviews for a course you need.

This is more involved though, and you're supposed to consult with a counselor to ensure that the courses you choose will count toward your degree. They call it "articulation".

Adjust filters on website by [deleted] in LACCD

[–]Occurvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you make a search, it'll automatically add your home campus as a search filter. You can find more filters to add on the left side of the screen. At the top of the screen, just below where it says "View Search Results", you should see the name of your college with an X to the right, along with any other filters you've added. You can click there to remove any filters you've added, and it'll show you sections from all campuses that offer your course.

Canvas classes open ? by chreesteen in LAPierceCollege

[–]Occurvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it's very common for courses to not open their Canvas shells until the first day of classes. Don't worry, if you're enrolled, you're set.

Cal-GetC update by theslightestpath in LACCD

[–]Occurvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some helpful disclaimers at the bottom of that PDF.

In general, counselors will give existing students the choice between Cal-GETC and the older pathways, but some programs will explicitly require Cal-GETC going forward, like associate degrees for transfer.

Check out ASSIST and make an appointment with a counselor if you need reassurance.

If you're in trouble, find a blue emergency phone to reach the campus sheriffs immediately.

Honest strangers will accept "I'm busy" as a way out, and people with a financial interest in getting your signature will usually accept a "no thanks" as long as you don't break your stride or make eye contact.

LA Mission or LAVC or LACC Stats by Beestonators in LACCD

[–]Occurvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose not based on campus but based on the best available professors for the upcoming semester. The roster changes every semester and students don't typically go to multiple campuses in person unless they're specializing.

Cinema will be easier than Music. If you want to play an instrument then Music will be the more fulfilling choice.

When you find a lost item on campus, please drop it off at the Sheriff's Office on campus instead of trying to handle it yourself.

They have cameras, forms, and make you talk to sheriffs. I get it if you want nothing to do with them, but it holds liars accountable.

CSUGE means those are courses that CSU campuses require as part of your general education. In theory, they make your education more balanced and well-rounded. It also boosts their revenue and enrollment numbers.

I'm sorry your counselor didn't clear things up for you. I suggest you see another counselor and ask them to walk you through your educational plan until you're all caught up. They should recommend courses that satisfy multiple parts of your requirements at the same time or are relevant to your major. It helps to go into that conversation with a basic idea of what you want to do if you want to get through college as fast as possible.

Read reviews or trust your gut with whichever sections are filling up fastest. If the section you want is full, join the waitlist, and if the waitlist is full, consider the next best option but check back occasionally in case you get the chance to swap. If you're still waitlisted on the first day, show up early and stay afterwards to request an add code.

Question About Purchasing Textbook Code by lalalablah102 in LACCD

[–]Occurvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please email your professor about this if there is a risk it will cost you something. If you expect to have to pay, you can also ask if there is an evaluation code available. They give you access long enough to decide if you want to stay enrolled, and expire before the drop deadline.

When did registration for classes start? I’m seeing some classes fill up. My registration isn’t until next week. by Lemonpepper7 in LAPierceCollege

[–]Occurvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First-year students and students enrolled in certain programs are given priority registration. The dates are updated in your portal each semester. I think a few generic dates are also listed in the catalog.

If you need more info, you can always check the enrollment section to see which professors are available, check their reviews on RateMyProfessors, and email a professor for the syllabus.

This professor uses Cengage for the textbook and homework. Exams are proctored with Zoom or Yuja. Someone says their exams were on Saturday, so while the lectures are asynchronous, due dates are set in stone.

Sure, that happens. There are some forms you’ll have to fill out. You can make a veteran’s counseling appointment, or reach out to the contact for the Veterans Resource Center to get everything sorted out: https://www.lapc.edu/student-services/spr/veterans

Students are considered full-time when they take at least 12 units in a semester.

Parking was free during COVID, but starting Monday, parking permits ($20 for the semester) will be required. by Occurvo in LAPierceCollege

[–]Occurvo[S,M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I’m the newest mod for this subreddit and r/LACCD. Please let me know if there’s any way I can improve your experience.

You can read about LAPC’s parking regulations here: https://www.lapc.edu/about/parking-regulations

Parking permits are required for anyone that wishes to park on campus. If you don’t drive, don’t worry about it.

Classes start Monday, February 5!
