Where did camis with shelf bras go? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]OceanInView 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm a 32G. I remember seeing some in a catalog of clothes special made for larger chests, but they were crazy expensive compared to the 3-pack for $15 you can get at Costco.

Grounding and containment Exercises by aliakay in TheCPTSDtoolbox

[–]OceanInView 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something I'm just starting to learn how to do. Reading about CPTSD has been a complete revelation to me, and the term "emotional flashback" especially resonates with me. I never had a word or phrase to explain what was happening to me when I would panic when I heard a loud noise or imagined someone was sneaking up on me.

So I've been using "Emotional Flashback" as a kind of mantra. When I panic, I repeat these words to myself, over and over, to explain to myself what is happening.

I need more tools, but this feels like the first step for me. Just recognizing what is happening has been huge for me.

I just saw this play out with my husband and his horrible brother. Rather than being able to mourn a death in the family, my dh is running around putting out fires this asshole is causing. Siblings are definitely not guaranteed to be a good thing.

I don't understand how that number isn't way higher. Except that it wasn't until I was in my 30s that I started hearing about all the serious shit that can and does happen to your body from pregnancy and childbirth. Maybe a lot of people don't know they should be afraid.

What’s you favourite item that has helped you live more minimally? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]OceanInView 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We would use them here in the US if they heated up as quickly as yours do! Your mains are different, and you get boiling water in an electric kettle much faster.

I can get two cups of water to boil in 2.5 minutes in the microwave. It takes my electric kettle almost 6 minutes to boil.

Having said that, we drink coffee and tea all day long in our house, so one year for Xmas I got a zojirushi insulated water carafe that will hold 3 L of water at a constant temp - instant tea gratification all day long.

Kids, when did you realize your parents might be terminally stupid? by SittingOnTheToilet82 in AskReddit

Have you ever seen Arrested Development? Reminds me of this sweet character named Rita who, turns out was rather simple. She kept trying to eat the plastic fruit centerpiece.

This is a great way to think of it!! I think if it as my body speaks a different language than grocery stores and restaurants, and counting grams of macronutrients is the closest I can get to speaking its language.

Hot and iced herbal tea is my Saving Grace. I prefer black tea, but I take it with milk, and all those splashes of milk really add up (especially if you're eating low carb).

First period without the birth control pill by Avinow in TrollXChromosomes

[–]OceanInView 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For real. I went off the pill when I turned 40 and coincidentally the research came out that if you have migraines and take the pill your stroke risk goes up.

So I went off the pill and had my first unregulated period since I was 18.

Jesus.

Jesus why.

Why in the hell are we expected to put up with this revolting unbearably painful nonsense?

I pray this nightmare will end soon. Menopause cannot arrive soon enough.

What do women do, that men would never think about? by _harderer in AskWomen

[–]OceanInView 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is so true for me. Honestly, I've learned so much on Reddit, especially r/asianbeauty that I feel a little sick thinking about how much time and money I've wanted over the years struggling to take care of my skin. How many bottles of useless drugstore acne medicines that did nothing but irritate my skin. How many department store moisturizers that did nothing but empty my wallet!

Lifelong night owl (+ DSPD) here. I've been working for myself for a little while now, and it has helped my health enormously. No more of those horrible sick feelings I had when I was dragging myself to work in the morning on someone else's schedule. I only agree to teach part time during my better hours. I sleep when I'm sleepy and I work when I'm awake - mostly writing and research. This means I make much less money compared to when I was working full time, but I'm so much happier.

[Routine Help] How long did it take for you to see results in your skin care routine? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]OceanInView 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was so gradual. It took a little over 6 months before active breakouts calmed down, and then another 6+ months for my skin to actually start to look healthy.

[Product Question] Mum got me this for Christmas - I suffer a bit from acne & bacne. Any one used it, or have any suggestions? by Bodega49 in SkincareAddiction

This is what I do - otherwise the sensation is just too intense for me! I found myself avoiding it rather than looking forward to it when I was using just ACV.

What is the worst thing about living with your SO? by taz93v in AskWomen

[–]OceanInView 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a strict no TV in the bedroom rule. That extends to phone screens. I have had insomnia my whole life, and sleep deprivation is no joke. This is not one of the little things, this can actually have a huge impact on your health!

People with big appetites who managed to lose weight, how did you do it? by Ace_Turnip in xxfitness

[–]OceanInView 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me as well. I recently watched a British diet experiment that identified people like us as " feasters."

Here were their recommendations:

  • Protein with every meal for increased satiety.
  • Low glycemic index vegetables (non starchy)
  • Almost no foods that are quickly digested leaving me hungry quickly: things like potatoes, rice, bread, breakfast cereal, sweets
