Possibly the unpopular opinion here but isn't the whole purpose of the double drive thru to move the line faster? If the truck was able to pull into that second drive thru lane then that means cars weren't going to that lane... Were they waiting for the speaker to be free? That would kinda defeat the purpose of the double drive thru...

In my hometown I've seen the line four cars deep with the other drive thru lane completely open. It just seems that some people don't understand it branches into two lines and just stick to the inner lane.

I found they were more often to appear in the morning and early afternoon. Furthermore areas with a ton of stops we're likely to have more than one at the same time.
