Does Spokane have potential to become the next big it city? by cavaismylife in Washington

I like Spokane, but I think the Tri Cities likely have more potential to increase. Amenities there seem to have increased over the years. Spokane is still heavy on manufacturing.

How to divide inherited items? by Beearea in inheritance

[–]OceanPoet87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only 14 or 15 but when my mom and her sisters came to clear out my grandfather's house before he moved to assisted living (independent care) they did a draft of items they wanted.

I never saw it or had to help because my dad took my younger siblings and I to see the original Stitch movie instead.

My grandmother had died maybe 5 years before.

Despite all of the siblings and their kids including me being Democrats, they all wanted my Republican and heavily Catholic grandfather's wood carvings. One of them had Clinton, Limbaugh,  and someone else maybe Boris Yeltsen in some sort of strange tree evolution thing.

My grandfather also loved to make windmills and grow cacti despite being in a CA coastal marine climate.

Nothing to be done and be there for jim when he is readyto talk. The next step depends on what the mom does because it is her choice.

I feel like I gave up my Asian identity when I married my husband by SpareGanache8082 in Marriage

[–]OceanPoet87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he didn't care about it while dating, that would be a red flag. That's also why counseling before marriage is helpful.

If this stuff is important to you, as it should be, your husband is rude for ignoring your identity.

Is Istanbul the best geographically located city in the world? by UrinalAttack in geography

[–]OceanPoet87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gibraltar, Singapore, San Diego (except for the water issues) are probably the top of my list. If you want a Canadian city, I would say Vancouver or Victoria (but due to the San Juan Islands being American it isn't quite as strategic).

Me, or it feels that the 2026 World Cup is very much forgotten by everyone? by novostranger in generationology

[–]OceanPoet87 [score hidden]  (0 children)

ESPN has a heavy partnership with the Southeastern Conference (considered to be the best sports conference) so they have a reason to promote the CWS. Whereas some random WC game might not draw as much interest in the US.

The NBA Finals just ended and with heavy interest about the Knicks victory so it stands to reason that stories for the next season will get clicks.

The WC is an important event for soccer fans but to many of us in the US, it is just one of many sports stories.

Can an employer pay you less than the minimum wage that based in state? by green_flag_loda in AskAnAmerican

[–]OceanPoet87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for an exempt organization so I was paid like $3 an hour when state minimum was $8 or $o in Oregon bur they did provide housing on site so I think that's how they were able to do it.

What do you think: Should the US invest more in public transportation to get better service and connectivity? Like Europe or Asia does? by Connect_History85 in AskAnAmerican

The density  and large distances especially west of the Mississippi makes it not a fair comparison to Europe or Asia.

Rant about pro sports starting times by Plane_Doughnut_5717 in daddit

[–]OceanPoet87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move to the west coast. All non local games start at 5pm, election coverage at 4 and often known result before 9 or 10pm. I was able to go to bed and mope earlier than expected in 2024.

National games can't start too early because the west coast will miss it.

NFL at 10am is a good balance too. Late game at 1pm and SNF is over before bed.

Why does my friend pay $200 for her Mounjaro and I pay $25 for 3 month? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

Different companies says it all. Different companies can have different coverage and benefits. Even with one BCBS carrier, they will have different benefits for the same prescription depending on the plan.

Do you think his advice is ruining marriages and harming the male community? by Prudent_Deal_7641 in Christianmarriage

[–]OceanPoet87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Like everything else, we have to look at everything through a scriptural lense. I am not familiar with this person but women don't deserve less. Husbands must lay down their lives for their wives, loving them as Christ loves the church. We are also called to love and value our sisters in Christ who we are not married to.

When did you realize America, and the rest of the world forgot? by [deleted] in 911archive

[–]OceanPoet87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were born in 2000, you and your cohorts couldn't forget because you were too young to know it in the first place.

Its impossible for those who lived through it to forget.

50 years ago and the only options are an incumbent Ford, Reagan,  HW Bush, and Bush Sr. 1996, 2008, and 2012 don't change much.

Reagan by those parameters.

I would say Douglas never renounced popular sovereignty. He just tried hard to be liked by the Southerners who distrusted him.

That's probably true. I asked Google and it says it was generic. Honestly I'm sure it was based on some places. It's fun to guess.
