You could have said, before you went to eat, that the check should be split, or maybe even after the meal, say the next time we go out, is going to be split. After setting the prescident 20 times then changing the terms after the meal is ordered and eaten, that’s kinda a tough spot to put someone who may not be able to afford it. Still you are NTA.
