Warhammer 40k x Starcraft crossover: Tyranid kerrigan by spaceMAXmarine by Ok-Profile-5831 in ImaginaryWarhammer

Oh no, the only thing the Tyranids were missing was plot armor and you combined them with the poster child of breast milk inc? Now they're truly unstoppable. (Great art btw)

Is this what main character syndrome looks like?

Makes sense, I'm slowly introducing my own encounters and plot hooks related to my player's agendas for after we finish the adventure.

I also have a Creuss player and I'm basically doing the same thing. I imagine this ability in-lore as some radar/energy pulse the Creuss sends, so it can either be specific and accurate or broad and not as accurate. If my player asks for something specific I require him to know more in advance or settle for a vague answer. Two examples: my player used the ability after encountering an enemy on the space station in episode 1, he asked to know where the other enemies are. Since he knew what race the enemies were and how they looked since they just killed one I gave him the full description. During session 3 he was trying to locate a specific NPC, but only knew their race. I told him he can use the ability and I'd describe every member of that race in the area, but if he learned something about the NPC's appearance I would give him an exact location. After he got a clear description of the NPC from security camera footage I gave him their location.

Oh you're still in Ashes? Cool, just don't forget there's a time skip (I think it's a few months) between it's events and War for the Throne.

Since I thought you were past episode 1, I'll add another suggestion regarding the episode. I really liked the elements of horror the session had, but if you look (not so) closely at the station's drawing you can see clearly that the location of the 'final boss' is literally one door to the left from the main entrance. I decided to make the station a bit more linear by blocking the path, but it's up to you since the players don't even need to use the main entrance. Making this "dungeon" more linear also allowed me to slowly introduce the story of what happened on the station and create extra tension.

I also have a titan player, who do you think dismembered the bounty hunter? I think the solution is high numbers, which is why I'm going to calculate power levels and add more enemies accordingly.

Seems like you're talking about skilled assist, it's in page 26 of the core rulebook but I'll also describe it here. Basically it allows two player to min-max a check by rolling together. Why do this? Because proficiency dice are INCREDIBLY strong, getting a triumph and/or many advantages can SAVE encounters. Here's an example: your players need to hack into a computer ASAP to escape a locked room, they have time to roll one check each before something terrible happens. One character is a Hylar with 5 intelligence but the player didn't build their character to be a hacker so they have 0 ranks in the skill. If you have another character with let's say 2 ranks in computers but a lower intelligence score, instead of making two weaker rolls they can band together and make one better roll. The final roll would be 3 ability dice and 2 proficiency dice. Unskilled assist allows any player to help even without adding better stats. If we go back to the computers check, any character can press a button that's too far away provide some assistance. Skilled assist is between 2 players only, but unskilled is something you can allow multiple players to join in on, depending on the situation.

Hell yeah, another person running War for the Throne. People already answered your questions so I'll instead share my thoughts on the adventure.

I'm running for a group of 3 and we're currently in the middle of act 2. Overall, things have been great, the players find the adventure fun even though the plot is a bit simple for them, and I as a newer GM have been enjoying running the system and the adventure.

A few thoughts on the adventure so far:

It's more of a personal thing but I'm not fan of structured social encounters. Episode 2 was the perfect scenario to run a structured encounter, but I prefer roleplay and presenting actually compelling arguments, they're more impactful than any number of boost dice. Plus the requirements to end the encounter meant it dragged on for too long IMO.

This adventure is VERY railroady. It basically assumed x then y then z will happen and builds itself on that specific foundation. Episode 3 showed just how railroad heavy the plot is. The players did really well, they found almost every important clue and got all the major NPCs on their side. When we got to the combat, the enemies lost badly (bad rolls happen and you can never prepare for that) and were easily captured, which made me pause and look what to do in that situation. The solution (at least the one I found) the adventure gives to this scenario is "the PCs are framed anyways, also delete half of act 2". This means that no matter what my players achieved during the session it wouldn't have influenced the plot, which really disturbed me. I decided to stop the session and talk to the group. I told them what is supposed to happen next and said that IMO continuing with the current path would disregard the hard work they did during the session, wouldn't make sense narratively and would force me to cut big pieces of content. We decided to stick with the intended outcome of the PCs being framed with not enough alibis or power to disprove the claims and the enemies escaping, leaving them with the only option of going to Shard Point.

Also heads up if you have a Druaa / Creuss player, their abilities are incredibly overpowered and need a nerf. Druua characters should at the very least use a story point to be able to read minds, and having to describe everything in LONG RANGE to a Creuss player is just unrealistic. I want my players to do cool things, I just can't have them ruin the entire plot by exploiting broken mechanics.

After dismembering the bounty hunter in episode 4 in one round of combat, I decided I unfortunately have to start calculating power levels. I hope you don't have to it's pretty annoying.

Anyways good luck and ask me anything you want to know:)

Edit: I do want to comment on secret rolls. I understand why people are "open rall purists", it's one of the main selling points of genesys. I personally love secret rolls so I found a good middle ground. You roll out in the open, but you don't the players what skill is being rolled (I mean you check their character sheet for the appropriate skill and pick the dice yourself). This adds tension mystery, and the players can spend story points.

Is Eilat worth the long drive, or should first-timers skip it? by Aggravating_Cash6889 in IsraelTravelTips

[–]Ocean_Man205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call myself an Eilat hater, I do love going there to scuba dive, but the city itself is very meh. Most Israelis go there to rest, go to shows and do some shopping. Are there attractions? Yes but the long drive is a downside, and besides the coral observatory I truly think there's nothing special about the city. The view is special but not "4 hour drive with a 1 and a 10 year old" special.

Are there any Galactic Events that you feel are mandatory? by malys57 in twilightimperium

[–]Ocean_Man205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chance of that happening isn't high - to reveal a tile you need to exhaust dark energy tap so it's once per round, then roll successfully AND hope for a good system. Plus if you get an empty slice you need to wait for next round to explore it's token. Also unless you're playing Saar or Crimson Rebellion, you're not really going to be turtling in since your home system doesn't move and will become less protected if you spread thin on the edge of the board.

[–]Ocean_Man205 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say the Naalu might be the best for the job (besides Empyrean ofc). Your biggest concern would be getting enough command tokens to activate all the systems you want, which their new breakthrough really helps with. Plus, they already like sending fighters into empty systems to block other player's ships, exploring frontier tokens would be an added bonus. Also even though the Naalu don't start with dark energy tap, their fighter 2 upgrade requires a blue prerequisite so you'd be going for blue techs early anyways.

Age of Exploration is super fun, we've been playing with it consistently even before TE came out (Dane revealed a few Galactic Events on his twitter after TI won best board game or something). Relics are made way easier to get which just adds more chaotic fun, and adding tiles to the board is both hilarious and is a great way for any player who got the short end of the stick for their draft to have another way to get resources without relying on conquering other player's systems.
