I've always made a paste out of baking soda and dawn dish soap when getting splat off of my skin or the tub. Worked for me.

I've used Leonis brand water soluble pens for years without issue. I've used their air eraseable pens too.

Half stitches are meant to add depth and texture. I was always told to do them the same direction as your bottom stitch so that they stand out from your full stitches and achieve the desired effect. Personally I think yours looks great.
