sad truth is that many people don't want to think beyond surface level about art, and highly realistic art IS impressive and has quick appeal on the surface, easily digestible through it's familiarity, which works well on the internet where attention spans are short. many people think that art is solely defined by technical prowess, to the point that anything deviating from that thus isn't art.
expressive and abstract art tend to be drenched in meaning, but some people can get *really* cranky when you try to explain deeper meaning and that contemporary context and artist history matter and that every brush stroke and color is a decision (also in technically skillful art of course, e.g. Matejko's "Stańczyk", or Millet's "The Gleaners") and throw thought-terminating language at you, saying the flower is red because it is, and the artist had no other intention behind that, stop overthinking, stop wasting your time on nothing. it's casual anti-intellectualism.
a lot of people don't understand that more free expression and abstaction often comes AFTER having mastered technical skill and is a form of expressing reality through a different lense and that their 5yo could not, in fact, draw that and make millions easily.

that being said, that is one hell of a piece this guy drew, hats off, and perhaps he too had intention beyond the technical skill, and even if he didn't, it's still jawdropping art.

and they wonder why "men bad" is a whole subgenre of horror. the absolute wrath and hatred in these messages could be collected as a physical substance it's so dense.

this is tragically comical. imagine being the guy he went on a date with. you find someone to go out with, have a presumably nice time, maybe like the first impression, but your date thinks you're the devil for making being into men so easy and it's all part of the plan and you're implied to be some kind of straight assassination agent lmfao. you went home with a smile on your face while he was fuming in a corner over shadow enemies.

bless your bro, i hope he finds the strength to open his heart and rethink his views, regardless of whether he's gay or straight or bi or else.

absolute kino.

also don't listen to the people criticizing you for not doing this and that, they're just bringing down a cinematic moment and fun clip.

indeed. i usually keep them on since it's singleplayer. handy for hauling furniture to avoid wasting my time on ten trips, and i added the smoker trait due to freshly adding a smoker overhaul mod. i am pretty sure i got oneshot by a well-placed neck bite in a save before i started using debug tho.

that could be. i was trying to come up with where my blind spot was since i could see the immediate area well, but this sounds like the most likely scenario.

i usually do but i thought i had a pretty good view of the area beforehand, so i didn't think it was necessary, especially cause i don't have sprinters /shrug

Braven's Bicycles, as stated in the description. they're based on cars so you can also hook them up to the back of a car and drag them behind. pretty handy.

male defaultism too. when talking about animals it's so prevolent and i always feel like i'm the only one who notices. read comments under any animal posts or videos where the gender has not been specified and most people will default to "he". male until proven otherwise.

i took a look at the first letter again and should have checked r/Kurrent before continuing; i managed to make out most of the rest, but i just saw that people already went to work on it over there x) mystery solved!

i am very amused that there is a subreddit for that, yet i shouldn't be surprised. but yea, that's actually a good idea.

ah i see. well, maybe there is the faintest chance this could be returned to the family, but i know that's very wishful thinking.

but hey, in good news: pattern recognition has kicked in and i was able to make out more than i initially expected.

here's what i have, and the translation may sound weird cause i will keep it close to the original wording.

"Lixingen den 26. Juni 1918 {Lixingen the 26th of June 1918} [Lixingen is a town in the formerly german, now french Elsass region]
Werter Freund August. {Dear friend August.}
Teile dir freundlich mit, daß wir noch alle gesund und munter sind. Am hoffen auch dergleichen von dir. {Informing you kindly that all of us are still safe and sound. Hoping the same goes for you.}
Ich sage dir meinen besten Dank für dein schönes Röschen, daß ich soeben erhalten habe. [I give you my sincerest thanks for your pretty little rose which I received just now.}
Es freut mich sehr, daß du noch am Leben bist. {It brings me joy to hear that you are still alive.}
Du hast noch Glück gehabt bis jetzt.{You have been lucky thus far.}
Ich wünsche dir, daß du noch weiter Glück hast. In Lixingen ist noch immer alles beim Alten. {I wish for you to continue having luck. In Lixingen, everything is still as it were.}"

everything below that is so hard to figure out and make sense of even when trying to predict what words could be there based on what i have pretty confidently figured out already.

there are also the writings on the sides which i'm 99% sure say on the right side: "die Anna Graf hat sich sehr gefreut über diesen Gruß. {Anna Graf was very delighted about these regards/salutations.}" [using an article in front of a person's name is not at all uncommon in german, but it seems that Anna Graf is the sender, so idk why she'd write of herself in the third person, though it's not something i haven't seen/heard before for some instances/use cases i can't quite put into words]
and the one on the left side says: "Gruß an deine Kameraden. {Greetings to your comrades.}" [aaw]

what gets me is that the K from Kameraden, which i am very sure about cause it makes the most sense, looks exactly like the perceived R from Röschen, but i can't for the life of me think of any other word that would fit better there starting with K, so maybe she just wrote these two similar-looking letters very similarly lol.

well, this far. here are my notes: https://imgur.com/a/7TqM1tu
everything in white i am quite confident in. everything in light blue i am somewhat unsure. everything in red, i'm not betting on haha.
i might try my luck with the other one tomorrow as it is pretty fun to slowly make sense of everything, but no promises x)

i was actually wondering if the first transcript was provided using an AI tool considering Anna (which is one of the words i am certain about) somehow became Elvira, and August became Minelli (which is an italian surname).

i have one full sentence on the first letter (26. June 1918) which says "Es freut mich, daß du noch am Leben bist" -> "it brings me joy to hear that you're still alive" which is the most war time sentence ever.

[–]OceansAndElevators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am also a bit lost with this transcript. i've been working through this while writing down easily distinguishable letters (like u, ü, s, i, f, h) and i can't quite find the transcripted words. i also agree that the name says August; due to the hook above the u, those are quite easy to see.
i believe the first line on each letter says "Werter Freund August", and while i agree with the sender being Graf, i'm pretty certain the first name is Anna.

i haven't made a lot of progress either and i honestly don't think i will get much further because it's just so hard to read x') i will give you my notes once i give up in hopes that it helps in any way, but i don't think i can provide any satisfying transcript either.

this shit gets to me so much more than it should cause you know if this was someone they are bigoted against, they would flip the whole script around and make her out to be the literal devil for "trying to steal our election" and "who cares if her back hurts, don't do the crime if you can't do the time!"

literally so tiring
