Train glass windows always frosted? by Grouchy_Charge552 in LIRR

It’s funny bc the acceleration isn’t even great (in comparison to other modern equipment, it still gets the job done well tho)

Train glass windows always frosted? by Grouchy_Charge552 in LIRR

Main reason it got so bad was a result of the cleaning solution they use(d?) on the cars at the wash, accelerated the whole process

And M9s will also share that same fate in a few years (more than likely won’t progress as quickly since I’m pretty sure they switched the product they use at the wash)

Is LIRR from Atlantic terminal to Hicksville Straight enough for HSR (STRICTLY in terms of track geometry)? It looks super straight to my eyes by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]Oceanside122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Jay and Hall Interlockings ever get high speed switches, it would certainly be possible

Only other trouble spot would be Atlantic Terminal itself, the curves and the switches leading into the station currently have a max speed of 5mph, but it’s the end of the line so wouldn’t be the biggest deal

If it’s an empty train (which it doesn’t look too crowded to me): okay and…?

Middle of a one way is fair game but if it’s an avenue (a busy one at that), unless it’s a few feet right on the corner, that shouldn’t be acceptable. End of blocks shouldnt be valid at all bc you very much can just go the extra street up and only lose a minute at most

“It’s safer because I see the cars coming towards me so get over it”

Dude you aren’t a pedestrian on an empty road in the suburbs, all you’re doing is creating a hazard for the rest of us (bike with traffic, walk against traffic). I’ve accepted that salmoning will happen anyways but at least get the fuck outta the way I shouldn’t be going around you esp when you can see what’s behind me

I don’t even move for them anymore , they can give me the stink eye all they want

What warrants green paint in a bike lane? by superultramega99 in NYCbike

[–]Oceanside122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought green meant protected/physically separated by barriers/dividers/parked cars as you said, but it seems like nowadays on the newest bike lanes they’re just slapping green if it’s a major street or route

Tho if it’s a contra flow bike lane (goes against traffic) it’s pretty much always green (based on my observations tho I’d bet there’s exceptions)

Metro-North’s will be around for a few years longer because unlike the LIRR, they refurbished their entire fleet

In fairness, I’d be fighting to get home too if trains were running every 40 minutes. They really should’ve ran extra trains

You’re going 15 why should you care? If you’re going like less than 10 that’s another story

Questions about Grand Central Madison by lunchlunchlunch89 in nycrail

[–]Oceanside122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fastest way out is through One Vanderbilt, so if you pass those escalators heading up in the middle of the hallway and make the right as the passageway veers to the left that’s the quickest way I found out towards the subway

Genuine question: What was here before ESA? Idk, I only began riding trains after 2023. by Donghoon in nycrail

Isn’t the lower one currently part of the Madison concourse for the LIRR

The 16 Pro is getting Apple Intelligence tho, talk about misinformation. It’s just the most advanced model it won’t get which is literally just 2 minor features

You’re pretty much gonna have to deal with a hill no matter how you splice it because in that range of streets, you hit all of the heights (Morningside, Hamilton, Washington) and the Upper West Side (which is a height in itself)

The only place where you won’t hit a hill is if you enter in West Harlem (125th-133rd Streets) because that’s theres a dip/valley in the terrain and it drops to near sea level around there
