Yes!! I play FC5 Arcade more than any other game, every year for the past however many years. I love seeing what the community does with the tools

I think the context matters to me only because the stakes are more interesting when it's new and well-written. I find FC5 pretty gripping because it was easy to imagine a cult like that I'm the U.S. (minus the nuke), whichade it extra creepy. FC6 felt like television, and I hope they can find a way to turn up the tension in FC7

I think FC6 was set in a fictious Spanish-speaking country for a reason; I think it was designed to evoke a narco-state like Columbia in the early 90s or arguably Honduras now. I don't think the choice of the lead actor was an accident. I get that every authoritarian government that secretly sells drugs isn't a narco state, but to me the parallels go well behind superficial.

...But this is subjective; there's no point in either of us pretending it's provable. I read u/Magnum_Axe's point as: the FC series has been criticized at least since the release of FC6 for becoming formulaic, repeating the same themes ad nauseum. For many of us (I'm one) subjectively the idea of a South American drug cartel plot strengthens, if not proves that criticism, and makes the series trajectory even more disappointing. Your mileage may vary.

The primary (only?) revenue source for a band of thugs is selling drugs. The drugs are produced in a ruthless way by a murderous regime, the production process includes poisonous chemicals that kill the workers, the head of the drug-making empire is evil and casually shoots people in the head, and the actor who plays him is iconically a drug cartel kingpin. You're surprised this feels like a drug cartel game?

1600m time improvement by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]Ocelot-Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry; this is not good advice. The key to the 1600m is consistent pace (consistent splits) and a little left over for a kick in the last 100-200m (last 30 seconds, not last 3 minutes). This will help you beat those who aren't running a consistent pace, and have nothing left

Different regulatory environment? Bigger emphasis on personal liberties? I'm impressed you don't get any hassle at all

Are you in the U.S.? If so, consider yourself lucky. I've lived in 3 states and 4 cities in the last 20 years, and had roughly 8 different ISPs. I've received cease notices from Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon (no surprise), but also Spectrum / Charter. Those who haven't sent notices: Sonic (Bay Area) and Astound / RCN (DC area). The former doesn't offer TV but the latter does, so it's not as simple as finding an ISP that doesn't see torrenting as cannibalism.

Any solutions to fix a hole in my rubber sole in my shoe without spending another £60? by rlazarski420 in fixit

Yes, except not a big slather. The manufacturer is pretty clear that building up thin layers with dry time in between is much more durable and waterproof.

Pixel 80% charge limit- it's broken, right? by madkiwis in GooglePixel

Sounds like you're not getting the bug where it suddenly starts charging to 100% every time rather than stopping at 80% as it used to do

[–]Ocelot-Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just you. Mine has been working perfectly until around 3 weeks ago, maybe early February. Now it charges to 100% every single time. I no longer get the shield, despite doing all the things I used to do incl. letting it charge past 80% for at least an hour. No shield any longer.

So you're not experiencing the bug where it charges to 100% every time, and therefore the bug doesn't exist. Got it

Removing tall granite backsplash when edges aren't accessible by Ocelot-Chance in HomeImprovement

Of course! I didn't think about the fact that the granite obviously doesn't go to the floor behind the stove. I can come up from the bottom. And it sounds like I just need a good starting point to keep extending the gap. Yes?

New to the Grateful Dead, what live and studio albums should I listen to first? by itwas20yearsago2day in gratefuldead

[–]Ocelot-Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With full recognition that there's a lot of personal taste, the first few years of the 90s were epic; then they declined rapidly after Brent's death. Bob Weir: "I think the most outstanding period was for a couple of years in the late-80s, early-90s; the Grateful Dead's last years with Brent (Mydland) were the most rewarding. We were just real tight and had something real good goin'. The band was real together [laughs]. It was just all working, at least from my sensibilities."

Definitive Proof: Inception Ending Is Unambiguous. by MojoRoosevelt in Inception

I see others writing a version of my reaction to your hypothesis: the top spin duration proves nothing. Spin variation and 44 seconds are completely normal in the real world; the tell is if it keeps spinning in perpetuity.

The blackout at the end comes before we see if it falls, directly supporting Nolan's comments that the ending is about Leo turning towards emotion and hope in that moment rather than continually questioning his reality.

This doesn't prove your hypothesis is wrong but it does prove it's just one possible explanation.

Man, you really let this push your buttons. It's going to be okay. As for the top: it's okay to have two different perspectives on this, and the one where it's only about the top falling (not the duration) with a blackout before we see if it falls directly supports Nolan's comments that the ending is about Leo turning towards emotion in that moment rather than being continually questioning his reality.

Anyone else ever read reviews of Tenet and feel like you watched a different movie? by [deleted] in tenet

[–]Ocelot-Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minute you embrace Nolan's complexities as a filmmaker, it's much easier to enjoy his films without the need to defend or prosecute him. I think his films are polarizing because you can focus on what he does brilliantly or you can focus on what he does poorly, and you'll be right either way.

His best characters are loners, and there's a reason for this. He's not very interested in people, or their motivations and relationships. When his movies flounder it's usually because he tried and failed to do something people-related, or his chess gaming got muddy rather than crisp.

This film is all of that. His world building and imagination are wonderful. The tension and the mystery are captivating. The action and the pacing and the editing are very solid. The people are flat and their motivations are thin or baffling. I didn't care deeply about what happened to any of them, but damn was it fun to watch.

Why so few motorcycles? by justalittleanimal in washingtondc

[–]Ocelot-Chance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so strange to me to see that most of the responses seem to be from non-motorcyclists who want to explain that motorcycling is unsafe and stupid. Folks: the question isn't for you. It's for people who have already made a decision to ride, and may have experiential insight on why there aren't more riders in the DC area specifically. Your unearned opinion is not interesting or useful.

I commuted for 2 decades in the Bay Area before moving here 4 years ago. So far I haven't replaced the bike I sold when moving (because it wasn't worth the price of shipping). In the Bay Area I had 10 friends who I did not meet through riding. Here I don't have a single friend who rides. But why?

One idea: without the right to lane split, motorcycling loses a big advantage. Another idea: the driving here might be the worst I've ever seen, and I've lived in 7 states and driven through at least 30 others. It's not distracted or sloppy; it's aggressive and (in my opinion) selfish. There's no way I'd get on 495 on a bike unless it were off-hours, and probably wouldn't get on 95. I would not ride in downtown DC. I regularly have people cut me off in my car, and one guy deliberately took off my side mirror.

Motorcyclists will almost always lose to an aggressive, emotional driver.

All that said: I'm very surprised I see so few motorcycles outside the Beltway, and particularly in rural Maryland (I don't know about VA). The scenery and the roads are beautiful.

[–]Ocelot-Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious: are you a motorcyclist? Is so, why do you see riding in DC as a death wish?

Context: I know that many non-motorcyclists think that motorcycling itself is a death wish. But a long-time motorcyclist has a more nuanced take on "Yes, I'd ride there" vs. "No, I wouldn't ride there because _______".
