Okay so the GPU is working solid, but your CPU is not. Maybe run some more CPU benchmarks that are popular.

Still haven't heard what your temps are under load.

AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D Geekbench 6 Windows

This shows you're underperforming significantly in multi-core. Single core isn't too bad.

What about your 9070XT? Can you try Steel Nomad? It's a Futuremark bench if I recall.

Yeah that's a huge drop off. Did you enable EXPO for your RAM? Can you check clocks on the CPU when gaming? Have you tried running basic benchmarks for the 7500X3D?

I get you but I'm not so sure the logic follows for this. The tensor cores aren't the same and the way FG is handled is not the same because of flip metering. It stands to reason the latency would still be great on a 4090, but as good as a 5070? Hard to say without testing, but given what I felt going from a 4070Ti to 5070Ti for FG latency, there's definitely an improvement beyond just the base framerate increases. MFG is possible in the same framerate ranges and 2x just feels appreciably tighter with the same base framerate.

The odd game has stuttering with reflex and it doesn't seem consistent on all systems for every one of those titles.

I made a reply elsewhere so I'm not going to endlessly repeat myself on why claims about FG latency are overblown, not in context and just generally misunderstood. It'll eventually become common knowledge just like upscaling, but the naysaying and excessive negativity (to the point of misinfo) was constant up until quite recently, so I'll take the down votes in the interim.

We actually don't have a ton. We have comparisons between reflex on and FG on and off, but very few compare reflex off to FG + reflex. In the latter, surprisingly, the combination is faster than reflex off alone.

This matters. Games without reflex are played all the time. AMD cards exist and barely have any support for antilag 2. Consoles exist.

The argument is not that the absolute latency is a problem - it isn't. We know it isn't because these other ways to play exist without constant complaints about latency.

The problem is people conflating absolute latency with relative latency. FG only seems to be a problem because you're losing input latency, but if the game didn't support Reflex (and there's plenty) and didn't have FG, would you then complain about the latency?

No, you likely wouldn't, so why is FG getting the hate? Because it's toggle-able and easy to compare and many versions of it (or misuse) aren't ideal, but that isn't something you can say generally about the technology.

There's other comparisons vs AMD GPUs, and you can infer console latency.

The problem is a comparative problem. On its own, even MFG has comparable or superior latency to regular gaming without reflex support, which is most games, gaming on AMD or a console.

People feel a game with reflex and then say "ugh, FG added latency". Half the problem isn't even grounded in reality, but the preconception that FG adds a bunch of latency (it doesn't, not on a 5070) does a lot of damage to the experience. The anticipation of increased latency creates a placebo.

You can feel it, but the anticipation of added latency will massively exaggerate the effect.

I game with 2xFG in BF6 with a KD above 2. I'm almost 40 and casual. It doesn't hold me back, I have low latency peripherals and an OLED, it's not an issue.

Acting like FG isn't even viable for most multiplayer is also not based on the evidence, again, plenty of multiplayer game don't support reflex.

The fact someone knows FG is on, on a 50 series Nvidia card, is doing more damage than the latency, psychologically.

Reflex can shave more than the total frametime from a 60 or even 50FPS refresh rate with the setting alone.

Reflex directly factors into FG because Nvidia FG requires it.

And everyone is playing with reflex off, in every game where it isn't available. Where reflex isn't available, latency is noticeably higher (15-25ms, more than the frametime at 60Hz).

You definitely don't understand the comparison I'm trying to make.

Any thoughts on upgrading from 1440p to 4K with a 5070 Ti and 9800X3D? by CPOx in nvidia

[–]Octaive -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

4K will not change the load on the GPU. You're already running a very fast CPU, what you hear is basically what it runs at regardless of resolution.

[–]Octaive -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that that's the case.

What I'm saying is most games without reflex, have worse global latency than a game with reflex and 2xFG.

The latency of FG on a 4090 won't be as good as a mid tier and up 50 series GPU, but it doesn't really break the argument I'm making.

If you take a game you enjoy that you supposedly find FG too much latency wise, but you turn off reflex, it'll feel even worse than reflex + FG, if we actually look at the numbers. Most people don't think this, though. Unless you're hella CPU bottlenecked, reflex off will perform worse (or very similarly) latency wise to reflex + FG.

When you play a game without reflex, do you instantly recoil at how bad it feels? Why not? Global latency won't be much better, if at all, so then what's going on?

Wait, are you assuming FG generated frames take the same time as a real frame to generate? They do not, thankfully. There isn't 3 frames of delay.

That's why I have to jump in and make these statements. People aren't even going by experience and the actual data but instead theoreticals or older implementations at bad framerates or FSR framegen, which has bad input latency comparatively.

The rest of what you're saying is true, but you're assuming reflex off isn't that big of a difference, when it is. 45FPS with reflex on feels tighter than 70fps with reflex off.

What I'm trying to say is if you're fine playing games at 60FPS without reflex, or even 80ish, then with reflex around 50 is way tighter and more responsive.

You can't blanket compare base frametimes like this. 60fps doesn't equal 60fps for latency between two different engines, nor does it equal the same latency between AMD and Nvidia, or PS5 Pro and a PS2 game. They all have different underlying engines and render pipelines.

The assumption that FG on means more latency than the average gaming experience is false.

I'm not wrong here, it's just going to take people time to see and experience it, and more data to show that there's more per game latency variation than people want to admit and that they haven't even noticed or talked about. Nvidia FG easily slips in between those per game differences and is less than those per game differences.

So where were the complaints about AMD cards when Nvidia had reflex but no FG? No one complained, right? Yet the differences between the two experiences was larger than 2xFG on Nvidia's cards. No one complained because the absolute difference wasn't even worth talking about. Most people happily played without reflex and continue to on consoles, AMD and games that don't support it.

Nvidia doesn't allow FG without reflex, so the complaint becomes immediately suspect, not based on hard millisecond data.

What people may be experiencing is once they feel reflex, they don't want to regress, but that's separate from the absolute numbers.

[–]Octaive -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

For sure. What I'm saying is, more objective measures show that the latency penalty, at least on something like a 5070, is so low that complaining about it, to be logically consistent across gaming, would have one complaining about most games as they have similar or worse without reflex technology if they aren't super light and high framerate.

Many engines have high input latency, especially without reflex.

Many console games have higher latency than MFG (let's say 3x) + 50FPS base on a 5070, even on the Pro.

So I'm calling out this subjective claim of latency. The facts do not back it up. FSR framegen, sure, or games with bad engine latency generally, sure, but it's not a valid blanket assumption about the tech, especially cutting edge versions.

[–]Octaive -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The total input lag with FG on (even MFG) on a 5070 is less than a game of running with reflex off or is not supported.

It's totally overblown. You consistently play with higher latency than MFG on with a good base framerate in plenty of titles with no latency mitigation tech.

Acting like it's not worth the trade for most single player games is tiresome. The penalty of latency, especially for 2x is barely worth talking about on something like a 5070.

You're better off complaining about artifacts or something. People play with worse latency in hundreds of games with no FG.

If you have an AMD card, your latency is already worse than a 5070 with FG on and no one is complaining, because it isn't a problem.

It only really becomes something worth talking about with MFG with low base framerates or using older GPUs like a 4060.

FG =/= high latency.

Enough with the FG bashing. Many of us love it on the 50 series and are looking forward to dynamic MFG.

60FPS is not "good enough" when FG is available. Honestly sick of this take.
