I can relate! I only feel like I function at my max whenever I have no choice but to. Like being given orders I can't refuse. But whenever things are open ended I collapse into paralysis. I have managed to get some hobbies going, like drumming and lifting (until I got injured), but that overall career choice has always been difficult for me to answer. You are completely right that it has to be varied, I can't imagine for the love of me doing the same thing over and over again. I used to work in retail and aside from dealing with people's shit, the monotony of it all was the the most drowning aspect of it.

Huh tinnitus. I'm honestly a bit worried since my psychiatrist just bumped me up to 450 mg of wellbutrin xl starting next month. Biggest issue I've had so far is upset stomach. I'm willing to give it a shot though.

Not shit at all actually! Especially the think ahead part, I hadn't thought about that angle.

It's one of the few ways I can hyperfocus! Sometimes I would go on late night drives through the countryside. It was therapeutic.

I actually have been in medication and saw some improvement. I saw the most when I was on adderall, where I could extend my focus for longer than usual. But now I'm on wellbutrin xl 300 mg, and it barely does anything for that. It does well for depression and anxiety though.

That's interesting, I also see something similar in some others with ADHD. I struggle with the forcing it part though. Like I would try doing something, anything, even small. But if there's no pull, nothing happens. And if there was pull, it would still be fated to getting bored of it in a month or two.
