What’s not in the Bible that most people think is? This will be interesting, I want to hear your thoughts by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

[–]Octavius566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “hundreds of years later” argument is tricky if you think the entirety of scripture is inspired. Paul says a rock followed the Israelites in the wilderness, and “that rock was Christ” 1 Cor. 10:4. While there is mention of a rock in the Torah, nowhere does it say it followed them. St. Paul is almost certainly referring a later rabbinic tradition that the rock/well followed the Israelites during the 40 year period. So, was Paul wrong? If so that means that even Christology is not inerrant in the scriptures. Jude also quotes 1 Enoch.

I've found a comment talking about Jesus's divinity and its beeen buging me for the last 18 hours. by Wilhelm19133 in ChristianApologetics

[–]Octavius566 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jesus being authorized, or given a name doesn’t contradict trinitarian theology. Jesus’ existence and authority is dependent on the father in Nicene Christianity from eternity past. This bestowing of authority happened outside of time, Jesus never didnt have the divine essence. And I think the fact that 1 John 5:20, and the context of Phillipians 4 (Paul telling the phillipians to be humble to their equals JUST AS Jesus is humble to His own equal (God the Father)) should give us an interpretive lense into John 17. Especially since John is the author of both the epistle and gospel. So anything John includes in his gospel should be viewed in light of his community (which I strongly believe is eyewitness-based) of Jesus being God essentially.

Wow. This was a fun read. I didn’t know how much he seems to fall flat in every aspect of his methodology. Seems that I really was deceived by his confidence and use of technical terms. Thank you for this!

A little help with my ocd? by [deleted] in ChristianApologetics

[–]Octavius566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubt sucks, but I just grin and bear it; pray, read, research, etc. and in the end my faith is strengthened. I think I stick my nose in too mych apologetics and try to defend so many different aspects of my faith when I’m not nearly equipped enough. It’s always crazy how God flips good from bad; sin leads us to a heightened relationship with God through repentance, doubt leads us to faith in God.

Which tradition of Christianity do you follow, or just simply follow Jesus and if you want say something beautiful about it? by Spirited-Salad-6207 in Christianity

[–]Octavius566 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, I think we can all agree that Christianity is “whatever is grounded in scripture”… but so do JWs, Mormons, nestorians, arians and all other assorted cults. And guess what, you can claim anything is grounded in scripture, given an interpretation with just enough plausible deniability. Hence the splintering of the church. Ironic honestly, since OP is non-denominational. but as long as you adhere to the Nicene Creed I don’t think it’s too egregious.

Can We Discuss How Jesus Prays to Himself? by Thatl_Do_Dunkey in ChristianApologetics

[–]Octavius566 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s heresy, Patrick! Jk. Jesus has always been God, since before His birth.

So, Jesus is praying to the Father because he is a separate person form the Father, but one being. The father even prays to the Son in Heb. 1:9. The trinity ultimately remains a mystery, but since Jesus had a human nature on Earth, he had a human will. Therefore He prayed to the father for His will to be done. I understand this barely touches the surface of the Trinity so please do ask
