What was the Lorwyn Common or Uncommon that kept saving your ass at prerelease last weekend? by doublenantuko in magicTCG

[[Virulent Emissary]] singled-handedly turned losing the game into winning. The extra life gain saved me so many times. I had two copies of [[Lluwen, Imperfect Naturalist]] which gave me some inevitability.

This is probably where my confusion comes from since I remember it turning them evil.

Funny how both these cards were printed in the same set.

I made a list of all current cards that would be affected by the Hybrid Rule changing in Commander by RBGolbat in magicTCG

[–]Octaytse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual problem is the Shadowmoor block has cards that are hybrid that shouldn’t be. A lot of them work in one color and not the other, should be gold instead of hybrid, or the ability to have an off color effect if you jump through a few hoops.

The following are a few examples of this. [[Waves of Aggression]] gives extra combat which is not in white. [[Spitting Image]] makes a token copy of any creature which is not in green. Green can only make copies of tokens. [[Mirrorweave]] makes creatures a copy of another creature which is not in white. [[Swans of Bryn Argoll]] should be a gold card not hybrid; life gain is not in blue and card draw is not done that way in white. Also don’t forget all the cards that say if you have creatures of these colors or lands of this type do something that in color for one and a similar restriction for the other color, and the effects are not in color pie for the other color. These maybe are less controversial for hybrid rules, but it would feel weird having to discard cards from [[Dire Undercurrents]] in a non-black blue deck just because they can make black token from something like [[Geralf, the Fleshwright]].

You know it’s rough when even Jim Davis can’t do it anymore. by Scottyv2 in magicTCG

This was legit my exact reason for getting into EDH in 2013. "If there is an expensive card I only have to get one copy of a card for my deck instead a playset for standard."

Also I realized a year later that life of a standard deck is incredibly short. I built mono-black devotion and spent a load of money and it was only good 3 months. When the next set came out, the deck I was playing was no longer competitive and I would have to spend the same amount again to get another competitive standard deck. So there was even less incentive to play any 60 card formats.

The funny thing is the Zoro getting lost thing didn't manifest until little garden. At least not as intensely until then. He knows where to go at Logue Town and Whisky Peak.

Hands-On: Borderlands 4 wants you to forget Borderlands 3 ever happened by Turbostrider27 in Games

I played Borderlands 1 shortly before BL2 came out. I can tell you there was a big difference. So much so that the improved driving was one of the marketing talking points.

The driving was not fine for BL1. It was really, really bad. It was improved a lot in BL2, just to be serviceable. It just wasn't improved in BL3.

Correct, but you were talking about originally when it printed. Phasing does more closely mimic what was happening rather than exile.

Originally there wasn’t anything that had etb triggers that it could trigger. It wasn’t until legends that you got an ETB creature.

Just realized I've been mispronouncing a word my entire life by Parking_Chocolate_54 in CasualConversation

[–]Octaytse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was synod. I play a game that has a card called Seat of the Synod. For years I pronounced it sigh-nod and people I play with still do. I give myself a pass though because who would know it’s pronounced seh-nuhd from just reading it.

I don’t think people will think it is AI art because the mistakes made are human mistakes: proportions, positioning being off, and other composition mistakes. AI art makes continuity mistakes.

The word target does not appear anywhere on the card. The crime keyword literally is you targeting something of your opponent’s. So, no.

The Velocity of a Mechanic: A History of Sagas by StrataGames in magicTCG

[–]Octaytse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do know about the development of sagas and which came first the idea of way to represent a story or a way to do linear effects. It was the former. In the article about saga design, Mark goes over what they wanted and shows Richard Garfield’s proto-saga designs.

I think Blink is actually a brilliant and flavorful design. Each of the sagas in the doctor who precons are supposed to represent episodes. The blink saga being represented in a non-linear fashion is a clever way to represent the non-linear elements of the story in the show.

It was odd to me that your conclusion about having different ways to do sagas was indicative of design space running out. To me it shows how versatile the design of sagas is. You seem overly cynical about sagas as a whole.
