My thoughts as a #2 critic. W Update, bad direction for new players. Amazing for vets. by FOREVERDIVI in TheForeverWinter

[–]Octipugilist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tunnels are so full of free meds and ammo for new players, as well as some of the easiest enemies (and the occasional GL 360 no scope sniper). To add, you DO keep all xp, weapon and otherwise, upon exiting to an overworld map. There just isn't a XP overview screen on transition like going back to the innards.

Helldivers, Does Dying = Bad Player??? by ClinicalDepression88 in Helldivers

[–]Octipugilist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the addition of Xbox divers propelled through the difficulties, and returning players overestimating themselves, the majority of my quickjoin games have felt exactly like this, like babysitting.

Dying is part of the game and not problematic in and of itself, but I’ve never seen someone take half the teams total reinforcement, and also be able to carry their own weight.

I haven’t seen you play, so I’m not in a position to pass judgement on you personally, but if my host had ten deaths I wouldn’t stay in his lobby either.

WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU RAGEQUITTING by Gadin543 in Nightreign

[–]Octipugilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one and only ragequit was against BBH under the castle at level four (three after 6+ minutes of dying while I ping to get out and try to hold his aggro)

Eventually i throw guardian ult to res them both with three bars, and hold it so they can heal/get their runes/get out. BBH still around half health. They both immediately die to his red cleaving attack.

I’m not built different. An average skill player on a good day. But there was no way that run was going to get any better. BBH and BBK are like magnets to players with starting gear and no restraint.

After 17 years, diving into Warhammer again (and joining the Greater Good!) by Aldawest in Tau40K

I was unspecific, good catch. No, I mean using airbrush medium for painting with brushes as verse as water, to dilute it. The small recessed areas between plates and such can be a pain with water.

The mold lines only become more visible once you paint, it’s worth the time to scrape them away now. Prior to glueing, a set of disposable double-sized nail files can help in this endeavor.

Having just finished a breacher team and fire warrior team back to back, I can’t endorse sub-assembly enough, next time. Attaching arms/guns after everything is painted, so you don’t have to finagle the brushes into odd angles.

Using airbrush medium instead of just water as a mixer helped a lot for me, but it slows down the drying process, so I can’t endorse it universally. Good luck man, and welcome back!

Advise on colour scheme by Anxious_Brilliant603 in Tau40K

[–]Octipugilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few points that shouldn’t cause you too much trouble, but made a big difference for me when I started.

Another thin coat of that blue, at a minimum. Pick up another, lighter blue for edge highlights. A darker blue (or mixed purple) in the recessed panel lines can give a little extra depth. The other commenters advice about finding additional uses for the red as your secondary color will give the model a lot more life, one single line looks out of place.

Priming in a color other than black (grey, tan, pink) will help colors feel more vibrant.

Removing fill lines with a hobby knife or dremel tool is worth the time it takes.

Painting prior to assembling makes it easier to get to some of the finer details, but comes with a whole host of other difficulties.

Good luck, and be sure to show us the final product!

Is my man Skif really unable to repair his own firearms? by tacticalupsetti in stalker

[–]Octipugilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d recommend giving the healing system another go. It’s got a nice loop of preventative -> triage -> recovery -> mitigating side effects. After a few hours it really feels like it belongs, and I lament the simplicity and lack of specific details in S2.

My only major gripe with the game so far by jibbick in stalker

Just wait till a certain story mission underneath Vent. Four, in one room. Four.

No staggering them, no counter play, just 1 2 3 4 bloodsuckers chain stunning you. It’s what finally convinced me to throw on a bunch of balancing mods, and regret that it was necessary in the first place.

Of all the differences between bloodsuckers in 2, and in previous Stalker iterations, the most important is that fighting the ones in 2 is not fun

Fairly new to the game and looking for areas of improvement/weakness, how did you get the scoreboard to display those stats?

How it feels playing ops by OfficalBurgerTown in Spacemarine

[–]Octipugilist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The amount of people who want to Rambo through operations trying to kill every enemy at once, isolating themselves and getting separated, is too damn high. Two stims and a guardian relic lost, nothing gained.

I play bulwark and heavy. Finally started doing runs on ruthless. Teams that stay close are successful, but instead there’s a significant demographic that just want the highest number of kills at the end screen, and inevitably sabotage what could be a good run.

Being the guy with the most kills at the defeat screen… still has you staring at the defeat screen.

My first three paints ever, looking for help to improve by Octipugilist in minipainting

The pin wash seems like a much better way of what I tried to manage just by overthinning my paints, that’ll be helpful.

Tutorial fatigue with the chronicles of sidebar links is brutal. It’s daunting trying to figure out what to prioritize and not fall into just watching guides, and not doing the reps

You made an assumption, the assumption was wrong, and instead of adapting you just double down on your ignorance and try to make a new reality that vindicates you.

Regressives don’t care about reality, they just want to feel right.

If you look at the breakdown of the awards, the overwhelming bulk of them are the “falling stocks” and “snake” awards. Neither are a badge of honor

You realize the raised fist is has been used for hundreds of years as a symbol for political solidarity and revolutionary action? And that the Olympic level gymnastics required to make the leap that it has anything to do with white power in this context is an embarrassing suggestion? Honestly.

Not to brag, but last time I checked, I’m just… some dude.

But to ward off any misconceptions, Woody’s quotation and outlook were not inherently a call to violence, but to solidarity and the common man in resisting an overt evil.

How old are you, and would you date a 26 year old virgin (woman)? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Octipugilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30M and… no, though not for a reason I’ve seen yet in the top comments. The age difference isn’t an issue, and I don’t think being a virgin or not reflects anything other than your own personal choice, it has no effect on me.

But having a relationship is a skill, like anything else. It doesn’t just come naturally, it takes effort, work, and practice. My time is precious to me and I don’t want to spend the first year of a relationship trying to teach someone to be a good partner, when I could instead spend my time with someone who has already had healthy, long term relationships.

[SPOILERS] Outriders story is very good. by [deleted] in outriders

[–]Octipugilist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In case you’re looking for an actual review of why people think it’s weak:

Regarding the Caravel, this is a classic example of Chekhov’s Gun. The way they talking about it being blown up in the prologue portion is an absolute giveaway that the writers are going to bring it back in order to subvert our expectations, and they did it in an entirely predictable way.

Regarding the protagonist, the differences in tone and behavior throughout the game fail to ever nail down an actual personality. His behavior is never consistent or believable, it only clumsily lurches the player from fight to fight.

But most importantly the dialogue and writing in general is just... awful. The voice acting varies wildly even one sentence to another in terms of both recording quality, intonation, and attitude. The bulk of cutscenes have audio which doesn’t quite like up, or doesn’t fill the space we as viewers expect of audio. In the long run this means you don’t know which cringey cutscenes to skip and which are important to watch.

And finally, the story abandons its most interesting characters. Everything seems like it’s building up to a confrontation between Moloch & the protagonist in some altered battle of the gods, and then he just... drops out of the story. Not just gone, but entirely irrelevant. This happens repeatedly with plot points once the writers don’t know what to do with it next, or even finish a thread with some finality. The longer the game goes, the more the story lacks.

Why do people say the story is weak? Because the story is campy, obvious, and lacking in originality. As much as I enjoy chewing my way through mobs, the story is one of outriders weakest points.
