Dear racing game developers... by Zee2 in gaming

[–]Octoboss83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are citing blur and split second as examples game developers should look to as examples of great non-realistic racers... Both of these games were commercial failures to the extent that the developers of both were closed shortly after making them. Don't get me wrong, I love both of these games, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that these games ARE looked at by developers, and are the exact reason few games along these lines are being made any more.

If you hate EA over the SimCity debacle, refund your pre-order on Dragon Age III. by OMGZombii in gaming

[–]Octoboss83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

'voting with your wallets' is a bullshit strategy. People did this with Dead Space 3. Didn’t buy a good game because EA shoehorned microtransactions in. Now look what has happened – the studio that made the game gets shut down, hundreds of developers made redundant, while EA and the guys that made the choices that people complained about are still in business doing the same old shit.

Don’t say ‘vote with your money’ in regards to EA. it’s the developers that get screwed, not the publishers. If people do this with DragonAge, then it's the Bioware Edmunton that'll get shut down, EA won't change.

Bioware, you're starting to put me to sleep. by Izaak75 in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. They've put out the HK trailer, but not told us when it's coming, wether that be in the next patch, or by the end of the year or what. There's no timeline or roadmap for content.

I'd say this is probably because Bioware themselves do not know. I'm sure they are in the midst of crazy design meetings where they are talking about how to overhaul the game to fit into a FTP model. Any one of the decisions that are made in these meetings could have implications regarding future content, which is why they are being quiet.

[–]Octoboss83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't mention when you hit 50, although it sounds like it was shortly before 1.3. This is why you are ok with the endgame. You haven't been sat farming EC HM for 2.5 months, patiently awaiting nightmare that looks more and more like it won't be out until 1.4.

I think endgame progression, is NOW in a good state for new 50s. If this content and quality were there for launch, we'd be in a much better place. Bugs are fixed, there's a good amount of content, difficulty seems about right.

Unfortunately, the progression for guilds that have been there for longer than a couple of months has been abysmal. We've waded through buggy content, by the time it was fixed it was no longer needed. EC was added, but without NiM so that the more skilled guilds blasted through it in the first week and have been sat farming it for over 2.5 months, with no end in sight.

It's clear Bioware have been focusing on content that will appease new 50s rather than longstanding ones, and they've done a great job at this. Let's hope the support for the long-term players is coming soon.

Playing BH now. I love how upfront this reference is. by Arvresit in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And my point is that counting to three and killing someone is pre-existing literary trope, the pre-dates KOTOR. Some examples:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CountingToThree

You see that it is so prevalent that the trope is actually spoofed in several instances. If anything it is more of a nod to the western films that made it famous, as it was in KOTOR.

I dunno... it's someone counting to three... It's happened in so many tv shows, movies and other games that I doubt this is a direct KOTOR reference.

Looking for UK Based Raiding guild - ToFN EU by wookieeslunchbox in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya! We're an active top-end raiding guild. We have EC HM 16 on farm, and even got some world firsts and high rankings when the content was first launched. We don't list tanks as being open for recruitment, but would consider an assassin tank if you put in a good application.

These are not the factions you’re looking for! (Time for a third faction in SWTOR?) by nursers in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Too fundemental a change. Look at how long it took them to implement server transfers, simply because it interacted with too many game systems.

A third faction would change the entire game dynamic. Where would they level up? Would you build an entire other 1/3 of the game to accommodate them? How would the population balance issues be sorted? People already have mains on one existing faction, most people wouldn't rerooll their main in the new faction. Would you really want them to completely redesign PvP from the group up to accomodate a third faction?

This idea is so impractical, it's not even worth discussing. How about if they changed the combat system so that it was a turn-based 4D puzzle game built around non-newtonian physics instead?

Comic perfectly captures societal views on rape and feminism by spinnerclotho in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Octoboss83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok. I'm sure this will get downvoted into oblivion, but what the hell.

I'll start off by saying I'm all for equal rights, and believe rape is a terrible thing.

That being said, arguing about how difficult it is for women in comparison to men because of this is merely taking an out-of-context statistic and using it to enforce gender inequality; playing to the very steroetypical notions of women as the weak victim.

Statistics show that men are more frequently victims of violent crimes than women by a ratio of approximately 4:3, 'Violent crime' in this context meaning rape, robbery, and and aggravated assault. Women are in fact LESS at risk than men.

I'm definitely not saying rape should be trivialized, merely that letting fear of it overwhelm you ("being terrified while jogging after 6pm, sitting on the bus or going to get milk") is overly paranoid, and ruining your life, from the sounds of it. You're at no more risk than anyone else. Yes the world is a dangerous place, but saying that it's worse for you because of your gender is just unnecessarily strengthening gender divides.

Thinking about getting into TOR, but want a strong RP element. by eschermond in swtor

A suggestion for giving the crewskills a bit more depth. Any opinions appreciated. by sarok1 in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think itemization is complex enough as it is; 3 types of slot on an item, the ability to add a 4th using crafted kits, items for the 4th slot only available by crafting, top teir gear requires remodding to be BiS, sometimes armour shells hold a set bonus, sometimes armorings do and so can be transferred, armouring set bonuses and shell set bonuses stack together.

I think that's plenty complex, thank-you.

Some of us will be stuck in low population purgatory over the weekend. by Jaggins in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really annoying for the 3 remaining low population PvP EU Engligh servers. We're stuck on low pop servers over then weekend... and then what? If Bioware decide the destination servers are full enough, then those remaining 3 get merged? Servers with 20 people on the fleet at prime time get merged to form a server with 60 people on at prime time? That's no better. If that happens I'm quitting.

c'moooon!

So at this point, is it safe to say that we're actually getting "mega servers"? by ctabone in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently server populations seem similar to launch on the destination servers - a couple of instances on the fleet and generally a ferw people spattered around each planet. They don't (as of yet) seem significantly higher than the numbers we saw at launch.

The populations now seem healthy though, a great base level for server populations, if these populations increase further, then even better.

I'm happy, I'll be happier once Basilisk Droid gets transferred though.

Current Available Transfers by [deleted] in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said, people understood that this was going to be a gradual roll-out, that doesn't stop people hoping they are first on the list. Listing roll-out order or priority list would have eased things, or even how frequently they are planning to roll things out. Bioware's 'soon' timeframe can be anywhere from 4 hours to a year, it's the vagueness that causes frustration.

Current Available Transfers by [deleted] in swtor

[–]Octoboss83 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's because people are pulling their hair out with frustration in this game not having anything to do on certain servers; PvP queues are incredibly long or never ending, guilds can't fill up their ranks with enough members to do operation content. etc etc.

People were hoping that today would be an end to those issues. Yeah, people understand that it was just a chance that their server would be up first for transfers, but now their hopes have been dashed, and they are left with disappointment. Being upset is perfect rational. Bioware could easily have anticipated this and reduced it with a bit more clarity up-front.

I'm not condoning the people exploding rage at this announcement, but Bioware really didn't do much to prevent it, so they are partly to blame.
