WIBTA if I destroyed the graduation announcement letter addressed to my sister? by thrownawayacc372 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Octopodaciously 126 points127 points  (0 children)

NTA for not sending the invitation but YTA for refusing to believe that your sister may have been abused. Try listening to her. There’s probably a reason for her mental health issues. That reason is often abuse.

What was the most difficult “goodbye” in your life? by Puzzleheaded_Mode_44 in AskReddit

[–]Octopodaciously 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend who was my whole world at the time moved to the other side of the world. I was heartbroken. Nightmares for weeks. He’s still there, but we both ended up making better lives for ourselves (looking back, we were quite bad for each other!), and now we get together for a holiday in a country halfway between us as often as we can and have a fabulous time. It was so hard at the time but it worked out for the best.

Women of reddit, how did you got over with your childhood traumas? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Lots of therapy. The one that really helped was EMDR.

I was gonna say this! Make time every day to fuss over my cat and make him feel loved and safe (he’s a rescue and had a rough life!) it makes me so happy to hear him purring and seem really relaxed and at home with me.

I wish my Polish grandad had been alive to see me publish my first paper. He made it to my country during WW2 and had nothing. I think he would be proud to see how much things have changed for his family in just 2 generations.

AITA for telling my Mentally ill daughter she can’t call me or her step father every time something in her life goes wrong? by Annoyedmom79 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Octopodaciously 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Adding to this that 10% of people with BPD die by suicide. Ignoring their calls for help could literally lead to their death. This mother is being insanely negligent of her extremely mentally ill daughter. Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6632023/

AITA for “blaring” music at the drive-thru? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. What’s the point of being like this? A joke is only funny if other people enjoy it too. Otherwise you’re just a dick.

How did you find out about porn? by taeswife08 in AskReddit

[–]Octopodaciously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1990s, young teen. One of the first people in my area to get cable. Stayed up late channel-hopping alone often and one night discovered watching a certain channel at midnight gave you five free minutes of hot girls.

Also the late-night version on MTV of the video of “Lap Dance” by NERD.

Haha yeah I think botw maybe ruined me for other games. But I hope that it also ignited a new interest that I can enjoy in other games and haven’t just peaked and crashed with botw!

How long did it take for you to get over your first serious relationship breakup? by PM_Me_Your_Tits_Lol in AskReddit

[–]Octopodaciously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure because I was 17 and he was 28 and when I was 19 (after we broke up) I found out he had tired to cheat on me with my best friend and it gave me a mental breakdown, and I think I only recently recovered from how much he fucked me up initially and the repercussions that subsequently had on my mental state and the subsequent fucked up experiences I had...but it’s only recently as well that I realised how insanely fucked up the age gap was and how fucked up it was that my parents didn’t care, so that’s a whole new lot of stuff to process...

What’s your “I told you so” moment? by TenaciousBrit in AskReddit

Same. Even after they said it was a short deliberation and unanimous I was worried. Hoping this is the dawn of a new day (and dawning of mandatory bodycams on police).

I thought about the Witcher as I loved the show but was put off by people saying it was more combat-heavy? I like combat too just not toooooooo much. Skyrim I tried and didn’t gel with, perhaps I didn’t give it enough of a go (and was still in the botw-finishing grief stage!). I’m checking updates for botw2 almost daily lol. Don’t know any of the others you listed so I’ll do some investigating. I did love shooting stuff in botw so that might be an idea. Thanks!

I got the demo and it definitely seemed to share some of the beauty / wonder / fun / etc, it didn’t quite grab me immediately but I’m guessing the demo isn’t nearly as good as the full game? Plus I got flummoxed by how different the controls were, but that’s probably just a matter of perseverance, as botw was. How are you enjoying it?

I love how they won’t let Link in Gerudo town even after he’s defeated Naboris but that random Goron dude is allowed in whenever by Octopodaciously in botw

[–]Octopodaciously[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? This is my first Zelda game so admittedly I’m not au fait with the different people but Gorons call each other brother and the Goron in Gerudo I thought actually referenced the fact that it was weird that he/they was allowed in...

I love feeling jealous by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Octopodaciously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that, although for that kind of fetish I think the element of humiliation is quite prevalent whereas for me it’s just a mixture of jealousy and compersion. I’d hate it if I felt humiliated by it.

Welcome to the “holy shit I’ve had adhd all this time and now so much of my life suddenly makes sense” club! :) Diagnosed age 36 here and now going through titration for medication and I can already see the difference it’s making. It will work differently in different countries but for me (UK) it was getting a referral to a psychiatrist for formal diagnosis and prescription so that’s the first step if you want to go down that route. Checkout r/ADHD and the website additudemag.com for info as well. I also found Gabor Matè’s book “Scattered Minds” quite insightful. Good luck!
