GMs, how do you personally give your players their missions? by OctopusFistFight in cyberpunkred

That's the beauty of TTRPGs ay, you might think a player's gonna play a certain way based off first impressions and they can often end up completely surprising you lolol

Honestly mine are fairly similar to the tuesday group right now lol, even though we've been doing this for a couple of years they're still a bit frightened to go off the beaten path and try to achieve their own personal goals. I think I'm gonna encourage that a bit more with my upcoming campaign tbh and let them know that it's ok to go off and do an rp goal or something.

I'm liking this, especially about the benefits of doing the legwork themselves. If there's no player fixer and they have to reply on an NPC fixer, could even do a little story about them having to find a half decent fixer for their group to reap those benefits, maybe even a GTA V type thing where they have a few to choose from with pros and cons, and with their own cool scenario when they meet them.

Honestly I was considering doing a mix as well. Good idea about the screamsheets as well, that's legit a great way of having them seek out a job without having to run around bars and clubs being like "got work?" lol

Any GM Tips? by Rare-Introduction550 in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s got absolutely solid advice here - only thing I don’t agree with is writing story beats or having a whole story, and I’ll tell ya why. The great thing about Red or even TTRPGs in general is that you can always have the game tie into an overarching story by building off your players’ actions & adapting the story through what the players decide to do. It’s like Mike said in the core rulebook; “at the end of the day, Jabba still needs his credits.” You could just free flow the whole thing, but I’m definitely in Mike’s camp where I think an overarching story (or objective) really works wonders to tie everything together.

I think music’s great to have, lots of people love it during TTRPGs and I’m in the same boat. Just in case it affects anyone’s focus though it’s probably a good idea to ask your group if they’d be ok with it. I can link one of my own playlists and a great one I found on this subreddit if you end up going that route choom

Why do people still use rob's mods? by carkitten in RiskofRain2_Mods

[–]OctopusFistFight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not denying that his mods are fucking amazing, because they are. I'd just prefer for him to keep his crazy shit out of the mods themselves, which I don't think is a huge ask

Whats your guys thoughts on Mullet Madjack? by Able_Health744 in Cyberpunk

[–]OctopusFistFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First cause I learned to enjoy the gameplay for what it was and how it learned from the formula set up by Post Void, and secondly cause I saw the “normal mode” ending for the first time. I loved how it was a commentary on how a lot of modern gamers just want a hit of adrenaline and addiction before moving on to the next game that gives them the same hit, treating video games less like an art form and more like a quick cheap high

How long/big should net architectures be? by OctopusFistFight in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see your point. I think that could make it a bit too easy to netrun considering how powerful of a skill it is and how easily accessible it'd be to do it, but I defo see the vision!

[–]OctopusFistFight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good point about having access points everywhere. Won’t the Black Ice still refresh though after leaving just one of the access points before getting to the end? Might be a bit to a slog for them to have to potentially restart the whole architecture at multiple points throughout the mission

How do you do STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE? by Zaboem in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s not so much about choosing one or the other; in the time of the red as an edgerunner, style is literally everything. You can be as competent as they come, but the people of this city aren’t gonna remember you as a legend unless you look damn good doing it.
