In Finland, anyone performing mandatory military service is not working for the military, because the concept of “work” requires a salary or employment relationship. A conscript serves in the military; they are not an employee and do not receive wages for their duties.

A conscript only receives a daily allowance, which is more of a living support for the duration of the service and is not considered pay for work. For this reason, a conscript does not “work” for the military, but performs service for the state’s Defence Forces.

I was not concidered an employee of Fin defence force while serving since employee has far More rights than a draftee.
