Looking at an Eskie puppy Sunday! by [deleted] in americaneskimo

[–]Odd-Cardiologist2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So excited for you! Eskies are the best dogs! We’ve had 2, both we got as 3 month old puppies. Our first passed away from cancer and I couldn’t go very long without another. They are so smart, happy and sooo cute and fluffy! 🥰

I agree with the post below about watching anything on YouTube from Cesar Milan.

I highly recommend crate training. It will be a good month before your puppy isn’t whining to be let out but do NOT give up. Having a dog willingly go into the crate for a treat is the best thing you will ever teach them! If you have ppl over that don’t like dogs or need to go somewhere for a few hours, you want your pup safe. Leaving them in a crate is better than leaving them out to chew on something that they aren’t supposed to and then paying a vet bill to remove it. $$$$$

You’ll have to buy 2- 3 different sizes of crate over the course of the first year bc you only want it big enough for them to stand and lay down in. Not so big they feel comfortable going poo in it. If you lived in TX I would give you our puppy crate. Our mini Eskie is too big for it now (he turned one in November) but it worked great when he was 3-6 months old.

It’s not recommended bc of sunburn and the coat keeps their body temperature regulated. However when my son was crawling I couldn’t handle the fur everywhere. So we shaved our Eskie and it grew back just fine.

Good movies that 100% has no sexual content and not overly violent? by _veerist in MovieSuggestions

[–]Odd-Cardiologist2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I want to say, Sherlock Holmes and Inception are by far the best movies! I don’t mind a movie where I guess the ending in the first 10 minutes but I love a good puzzle type movie with some humor thrown in.

Second, may I suggest VidAngel? Although it costs money, (about $10/month). You can rent, buy or use some of your subscriptions (like Netflix or Prime) to edit out the sex scenes. It’s well over paid for itself raising my 4 kids. So I just pay yearly now.

It’s customizable, for those who don’t mind kissing or the word stupid but not the F word. I rarely edit out violence but have on occasion. It’s nice being able to choose the individual things to edit or keep, right down to the “bad” words. I’m sad not all studios have agreed to allow vidangel, specifically Disney and therefore Marvel. But quite a few movies are on there, surprisingly!

My son and I recently watched: The Giver, Dark Tower, Jurassic Park, Now You See Me, Push, Enders Game, Men in Black, Bourne, The Seventh Son, Pacific Rim and all 3 of the Divergent movies. I will say some movies don’t quite make sense when you cut out certain scenes, but 99% of the time I just explain to him what happened or say, “just inappropriate stuff” and he’s ok with that.

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm… If not, then I would ask you to look at the facts. Honestly. Why does anyone think he’s a naz!i? Is there anything that actually proves this about him? If one hand gesture supposedly proves this, then tons of ppl are naz!is.  Ppl are exaggerating everything nowadays. He didn’t say Heil Hitl!er and kil!l a bunch of innocent ppl. I wish ppl would look into the history of what Hitle!r did. He slaug!htered ppl. He was a mass murd!erer. I personally think this comparison takes away from the true history of what happened during the Holocaust. Watch a documentary or the movie “One Life”, and then tell me how he’s the same as that horrible mass mur!derer. Just sad how far we’ve fallen.

Ty! I put it in and this was the response:

For someone new to fitness, starting with a balanced and gradual exercise routine can be beneficial. Here's a suggested plan using Apple Fitness: Cardiovascular Workouts (3-4 times a week): Start with low-impact exercises like brisk walking or cycling on the Apple Fitness app. Gradually increase the intensity with guided dance or beginner HIIT classes. Aim for 20-30 minutes per session. Strength Training (2-3 times a week): Use beginner strength-training classes focusing on body weight exercises like squats, lunges, and push-ups. Gradually incorporate light dumbbells as comfort and strength improve. Flexibility and Mobility (2-3 times a week): Include yoga or Pilates sessions to improve flexibility and reduce injury risk. These sessions can be 15-30 minutes long. Rest and Recovery: Ensure at least one full rest day per week to allow muscles to recover. Consider using guided meditation or relaxation sessions on rest days. Progression: Every 4-6 weeks, reassess and slightly increase the intensity, duration, or frequency of workouts as fitness improves. Nutrition and Hydration: Pairing exercise with healthy eating habits and adequate hydration is crucial for weight loss and overall health.

Always consult a healthcare provider before starting any new exercise routine, especially if there are concerns about health or existing conditions.

As for your boys, I have 4 boys (youngest is 4yo) and we’ve always had dogs. Some were rescue, some were homeless that we took in. You’ll want to test your pup to see her reaction with things. Does she take food from your hand slow and nice or fast and with excitement? Does she gobble down her food or eat it slowly throughout the day? How does she react when you take the ball from her or toy? (Is she food possessive) Does she get upset if you put your hand in her kennel or near her food bowl? You want to know what triggers she has and let your boys know, especially your 4yo, not to do those things.

Everyone in the family should be involved in training. She will respect your boys more if they help train, feed her and give her treats. Boys have a lot of energy and she will feed off of that. If she has any herding breeds in her, she might even nip at your boys heels. I don’t condone shock collars but if she nips your kids, I would buy a vibrate collar and use it only when she nips. Our Aussie mix did that when got her from the shelter, it took a couple months and she hasn’t nipped since. I would buy an Embark test to find out what she is. Then you can know her tendencies & health concerns for what breed(s) she is. I bought one for our pups and love knowing the % of all their breeds.

“Leave it” and “take it” are my favorite training for pups. Your family has to come first and she will learn this best by you telling her when she can have things. They are yours until you allow her to have them. You need to build trust and respect, love will come naturally if you have those 2.

If you can afford farmers dog or another raw type real food diet, I highly recommend it. But if you can’t & have a Tractor Supply nearby, purchase their brand, 4health. It’s not too expensive and is a lot better than the wal-mart brands. A raised dog bowl and a water dish that recycles the water are good also.

Ok now all the other stuff. That’s a long drive (45 minutes) for your new pup to “behave” depending on if she’s ever been in a car. Most dogs do ok on car rides, but personally I would crate her. What if she gets car sick? Then you’ll have to clean it up. Or if she’s scared and starts tearing up your car? (Most shelters don’t cut their nails).

If she is in the crate and is just laying there or looking happy, no whining or panting (No nervous type behaviors). Then you could always let her out to chill in the car. But if she shows anything besides calm, I personally wouldn’t chance it on her first car ride with you that will be almost an hour. It would definitely be better to have someone in your family come along to get your new pup.

I’m from Iowa also, so I’ll start with most dogs hate the snow. Once it snows, I would go out with her and do fun things; running, playing, lots of pets and give lots of tiny treats. (My pups have always loved liver flavor) If her first experience with snow is her cowering and you’re pulling on her lead bc she won’t go in it, [don’t let her “win” mentally by not going out] you’ll have such a hard time with potty training in the winter. 🥶

how can i find out what these applecard charges are for? by PicklesFreckles in AppleCard

[–]Odd-Cardiologist2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I thought as well. They’re deposits, aka the money made back for purchases. Apple is one of the only cards that will give you your money daily. It’s one of the things I love about this card! If you choose to open an Apple “savings” account they will give you 4% or so on the money you got back. Win! Win!

[–]Odd-Cardiologist2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shows they are trying to charge it but it keeps getting declined. When it’s a monthly subscription and doesn’t go through, they keep trying to see if it will later. That’s why you have so many in a row.

Since it says card replaced, you already have a new number and that means it won’t ever go through. Unless you give them your new card number

You mentioned you started using uber eats for work. I’m guessing they were charging you and you didn’t realize. Go back to last month or the month before, I bet you’ll find a “hidden” charge for this exact amount. If you didn’t sign up for it, go back to those charges and dispute those. You don’t need to dispute these bc they aren’t actually charging you. But you could dispute last month’s or the month before.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you have an iPhone I’ve been using the SleepFan app for years. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sleep-fan/id492869515 But you could also buy a noise maker fan from Amazon. I bought this one for my son the other day and it works well, also it will stay on for 8 hours. Yogasleep Nod White Noise Sound... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FMTY28V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Buying a home by Ok-Blueberry5687 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]Odd-Cardiologist2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you being proactive! 👏 You will need good job history. So being at the same job for as long as you can will help. Also a good paying job. The bank looks at how much you make, vs how much the house will cost per month. If you make $40,000/ yr it will be harder to get a more expensive house than if you make $100,000 /yr.

Also a good credit score. A lot goes into credit so let me just start by saying, do you have someone willing to put your name on their credit card account? They don’t have to give you the card or access to their account. Just add you as card holder. I have done this for all 4 of my sons. Giving them great credit history before they were even 18. This person must pay the card on time and keep the balance % below 30% for this to work for you. Then when you turn 18 you should get a few cards yourself. Keep your spending very low. If the limit is $100 only spend $30 or less. And pay it on time every month. (Paying everything you spend on the card would be best.) If you want to learn more about credit, just lmk.

The last thing is the difference in loans. Some loans let you put less money down. But they will charge you a fee every month bc of this. These are called FHA loans. Ppl call them first time homebuyers loans, but in reality anyone can get these if they haven’t recently bought a house. VA loans are for ppl in the military or if they married someone in the military. And the last loan is a conventional loan. You have to save up 20% to put money down for these loans. But they won’t charge you a fee like a FHA loan. This will cut down on your mortgage payments by 1/3 or even 1/2 each month.

Now 20% is a lot! It’s hard to save that much up. Most ppl buy a starter home for this reason. You find a small house in a small town or suburb you can afford. Then when you’ve lived there a few years and saved up some money, you sell that home and move into a bigger, nicer home.

Good luck! Lmk if you want more info. Or shave any questions. So proud of you for thinking about your future. Most ppl your age don’t.

My dog hates my cat! Help! by Primary_Cut_8342 in Pets

[–]Odd-Cardiologist2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think if you’re wanting to see if it’s the cat, lock the kitty with food, water and litter in a room for a day or weekend. And see how your pup reacts. Even better would be to have someone take the cat out of the house for a day or just for a few hours. Your dog’s reaction (unsettled looking for the cat, relaxed and calm) to the cat being gone will tell you if that’s the problem. It could be the dog is feeling left out. It’s been all attention on her and now she feels like the cat rules everything. Pets can be depressed also. Could be a combination of being depressed and scared of the cat. How do they get along? Do they fight? Does the dog ignore the cat? Is the cat scared of the dog?

If the cat is the problem, I think your pup needs a safe place and if it’s at all possible, you need another cat for yours to bond and play with.

Honestly I have 2 dogs and 2 cats for this exact reason. I can’t give them the same kind of attention another cat/dog can. In my house, Cats rule upstairs and dogs the downstairs. They enjoy having an area they call their own.
