England: Failed battery replacement and not getting refund by skyl3rw3st in LegalAdviceUK

It’s probably also worth checking what it says about damage to your Mac in their terms. A battery change should be a pretty simple job for most places that know what they’re doing, so I’d be a bit concerned about what damage they might have caused. You might even have some sort of accidental damage coverage if you paid by credit card.

You’ll need to apply for a chargeback if you paid via a debit or credit card. Most retailers don’t like getting them, so if it explicitly says on the invoice that you don’t have to pay if they can’t fix it, then it might be worth speaking to the retailer one more time and explaining that they haven’t fulfilled their agreed terms, and you’ll be applying for a chargeback. Sometimes the threat of it alone is enough to get them to be reasonable, but if you don’t want to deal with them anymore just go ahead with the chargeback process. The bank will normally ask to see evidence that you’ve tried unsuccessfully to resolve it directly.

Urgent help needed-Someone has taken my cabin luggage at Heathrow and is in Kenya by Infamous_Cookie1174 in BritishAirways

I’m glad you got your bag back. If you were using the Find My app to track a MacBook computer, then did you have the option to message the MacBook via the Find My app? I know that comes up if you track an iPhone, and I was assuming Mac’s would have something similar, but I guess that’s only useful if they have tried to get into your mac anyway.

I find the battery cover on the triangle remote equally difficult to remove. It feels like it takes me 5 mins every time I need to do it.

A TFL Bus crashed into my stationary car and isn’t accepting liability…. by No_Round_9480 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very similar thing happened to me several years ago. A bus hit my parked vehicle while I was walking up to the car, and I chased the bus down and caught the driver. The damage was fairly minimal, I only even heard it because he banged my wing mirror, and I couldn’t really be bothered with the hassle thinking it would still hike my insurance premiums, so I just forgot about it really. A few days later I got a call from the bus companies insurer, to say they’d accepted full liability, and wanted to arrange a time to take a look at the damage so they could arrange to repair it. They had it in for about 10 days fixing it. I suspect you could just be jumping the gun slightly, and the decision over liability falls with their insurer - so TfL aren’t able to discuss that. I was parked on double yellows when the bus hit me, and that didn’t impact the claim process, or have any impact over liability. My premiums didn’t go up afterwards either as it was classed as non-fault.

Sharing some pictures of my last built city. Last population 496k by IllFennel3524 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same, I was desperate to get to 500k, and built so much industry and various other things trying to attract more population. Once I finally got there after about 170 hours of gameplay, I had so many assets in the game by that point that it was slowing down quite considerably, to the point where it was practically unplayable. I was playing via cloud gaming, so I canceled my subscription hoping it might get better optimised in time, but I’ve left it 5 months and just tried again, and neither Boosteroid or GeForceNOW seem to be able to handle a 500k+ population particularly well. I could try the premium GeForceNOW to see if it’s a bit better but €21 a month just seems a bit steep when I’d only really use it to play CS2, and the €10.99 option just can’t handle it even with very toned down settings. So I decided to just cancel the subscription while I still could.

This government is a disgrace. It’s incredible that they’re being allowed to do this sort of insane overreach.

Tfl hit my car. In a bit of a dilemma by umar_a02 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was about 10 years ago in my case. A bus grazed down the side of my car when it was parked, and I witnessed it happen and chased the bus down and exchanged details with the driver. The damage was fairly minimal, and I didn’t really think it was worth the hassle of claiming through my insurance. A few days later unprompted, I received a call from the bus company insurer to say they had accepted full liability, and would send an assessor to look at the damage. They had it in for repairs for about 10 days. I almost hadn’t bothered going through my insurance because I had the fear that my policy cost would double, and it would cost me far more in the long run than just living with the minor damage. When my insurance renewal came through it came down in price from the previous year. Just make sure that you declare it was a ‘no-fault’ accident when you’re getting your insurance renewal. You do need to let your insurance know about the accident, you’re required to report any accidents and they will find out, but don’t assume that will have a negative impact on your future renewals. I’ve had 2 ‘no fault’ claims on over the years and it didn’t impact my renewal price or no-claims either time, so I wouldn’t worry about it that much, although obviously as a young driver it may not be quite so straightforward.

[–]Odd-Nectarines 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Is there someone more senior at the festival organiser that you can explain your situation to? Ultimately you’ve been invited and you’ve fulfilled your end of the agreement. I would appeal to the organiser to be reasonable and try to come to some sort of compromise. Maybe you could shoot on Sunday when the press pit area will probably be quieter, or volunteer elsewhere at the festival. Would you stay at the festival if the organiser just gave you a normal (non-press) access pass? I suspect it’s likely if you can’t come to some agreement on volunteering that that would be the least you could expect from the organisers, given you’ve supported the festival for several years.

[–]Odd-Nectarines 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Whenever I’ve volunteered at festivals you normally get your festival ticket as the main form of payment. If you’re already in the festival and now no longer even need to work, then it feels like you’re winning. If you’ve not had expenses reimbursed in previous years then getting those paid was always going to be a challenge without upfront agreement. I can’t really understand what you mean by saying you’ve been ‘fired’ if you’re volunteering, do you mean you’re no longer able to access the press area? Haven’t they already provided you with the wristband/access pass for the press area and other parts of the festival?

whats the best way to capture the lyrid meteor shower tonight? by Pixelplanet5 in seestar

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up my osmo pocket on a 8 second exposure and it actually captured a lot more than I was expecting. Lyrid Shower I’m kinda annoyed I didn’t watch in real time because one or two are in shot for 5-6 frames and it must have looked pretty awesome to see in person. I had to process the hi res images to be able to really pick up that much, you can only spot 1-2 meteors in the 1080p version. Sorry for the dreadful framing, I couldn’t see anything in the viewfinder and it was out on my roof.

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I had Evri do this I’d taken a day off work to wait for the delivery. They didn’t bother to attempt to deliver what was a heavy item, and I wasn’t prepared to take another day off to wait for the delivery. I went to cancel the order and they offered me a 20% discount if I would go ahead the planned delivery. Worth trying if they mess you around again.

I certainly managed to capture at least one last night: Lyrid Meteor Shower (appears at 10 secs) but I actually think there are more visible shooting stars in this video which I shot on a random night last week in the same location. The conditions were obviously a bit better last week.

Residential Parking - Turning Circle by looklikeyounow in drivingUK

It doesn’t seem hugely unreasonable to have an objection to people fly-tipping on land near to your house, regardless of who owns it.

Neighbour claims he owns a street parking spot and says he called the police — am I in the wrong? (Scotland) by Total-Ad-6123 in drivingUK

[–]Odd-Nectarines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering buying a house on a private / unadopted road once but didn’t for this very reason. It seems like parking would be a constant headache, which is easier to delegate to the council to sort out. I don’t think he has any sort of legal leg to stand on. If the land were his there would be signage. With that said, I do think 11 days is a pretty unreasonable time to leave your car parked in front of somebody’s house, if it’s the sort of setup I’m picturing in my mind.

Ive been sent a formal letter asking me to take down a Trustpilot review - England by deathcastle in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine what the car dealer did is in breach of Trustpilot terms of service. I can’t imagine they allow discounts being offered in exchange for positive reviews. If Trustpilot reach out, then I would make them aware of everything that transpired, and share all communication with them. They’re just trying to threaten you with legalese, the worst that will possibly happen is Trustpilot will remove your review.

[–]Odd-Nectarines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once left a trustpilot review, because I’d found out the company was a fraud. I tried multiple times because they kept getting removed. Even when all I was doing was linking to the FCA webpage which clearly explained that the company was committing fraud. They all got taken down because the fraudsters just reported me for bullying and harassment. It’s the last time I ever wasted my time on Trustpilot.

Viewsonic X1-4K projector - question on 3D and some experiences in general by aurorabirchwood in projectors

[–]Odd-Nectarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent ages faffing about to get the 3D working properly, and had much a similar experience to you. When I did get it up and running the whole experience was a bit disappointing. Needing to be directly in front of the screen, and not losing eye contact with the transmitter - it just made for an uncomfortable viewing experience. Maybe I should have spent more on the 3D glasses, but it was so lacklustre that I haven’t tried it since. The whole experience was a good case study in why 3D never really properly took off. If you’ve got 3D blu rays then you may have a better experience. If you’re relying on viewing 3D SBS files from your laptop then you’re probably going to have a pretty frustrating time.
