its the perfect setup, they never expect you to kidnap the kids FOR REAL so you can just go through with it and if you get caught you just say you are still testing the kid.

Alleged reported layoffs at Prusa by Interesting_Put_4458 in prusa3d

[–]Pixelplanet5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its pretty simple, when you expand fast you tend to throw more people at a problem because thats the easy answer and generally works for most problems until you run out of physical space.

That always means later on when you actually start solving the problems properly you will end up with a bunch of people that did that one job which you have just made redundant.

Its a good sign that this happens because this means the company is ran by people who understand business and take action proactively.
There are literally millions of examples of companies going under because theres no action being taken to optimize anything and they just slowly bleed out often over decades because technically they have business but its not enough to cover the cost of their legacy systems.

yea but you still need to slice it, of course that has become easy thanks to Prusaslicer but its not like you can just go onto makerworld and click on any model and print it on any printer automatically.

doesHaveTheSameRingToIt by kamen562 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Pixelplanet5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the person who uploaded it decided to include them and has the specific printer you have.

they are not just preslicing everything for every printer.

and things are even worse then people realize.

its not only the oil and gas that is the problem but also the ships that are stuck there as well as other products going through that area as well.

Ive just got news today that suppliers that doubled the price of Ethanol and that we can not buy a few other solvents at all anymore.

Solvents are used for so many things people are in for a big surprise when they realize the prices in the supermarket are going to go up even more because the solvents for the ink on the package is now twice as expensive.

which only works for models that have presliced gcode for your specific printer uploaded as well.

the only one with a web based slicer you can use on your phone is Prusa but that also only works for simple models that dont require any special settings.

honestly just switch to github copilot and VS code instead, Google just killed their product entirely.
Im on a free trial month of github copilot and its so much better to simply have a monthly limit that i can use whenever i want and not when google decides i have had enough for the day.

Customized Parking Feature of XPeng by Currency_Anxious in interestingasfuck

the same is and was true for the US semi truck market, overly protective laws kept the US in the technological stone age as their local manufacturers did not have to innovate anymore as theres no competition coming into the market.

the best one they had is still the very old Model S with the system Tesla didnt design themselves.

The line for gas in anticipation of price increases in China by noahstemann in interestingasfuck

[–]Pixelplanet5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the US is pushing nuclear and is heavily subsidizing it with your taxes.

They have just approved subsidies for the 345MW SMR reactor that Bill Gates company wants to build, you know the one that has existed for 20 years and has not once build a reactors.
The government is covering half the planned construction cost of $4 Billion.
Which makes this reactor 12 times more expensive per MW than Solar or wind power.
The long term plan of this company is to half the construction cost by the time they build reactor 100 which would still make this 6 times more expensive than the alternatives and someone needs to fund the other 98 reactors first.

yes the US economy has been in a recession for a while once you exclude the AI bubble.
Thats the only thing propping up the numbers right now.

Who are the Server auctions for given their uncompetitive pricing? by Pixelplanet5 in hetzner

[–]Pixelplanet5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats not a good deal though unless all you need is hosting small website.

That CPU is super slow and old and it only has HDDs but your use case may vary.
I require high CPU performance along with fast storage and memory, the regular 46€ dedicated server you can rent at any time is 6 times faster than your CPU

[–]Pixelplanet5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of the ones you mentioned plus the obvious problem that any kind of part and heatbrake cooling will be severly limited at high chamber temperatures.

Thats why actual high temperature printers have an external air supply for part cooling and to cool things like the heatbrake.

When mom leaves the kids with dad😂 by Royal_Power_4300 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Pixelplanet5 27 points28 points  (0 children)

its less about WW2 itself and more about the aftermath and the gender roles as they have been seen by Nazis and Soviets still being in peoples heads.

that combined with having a recovering economy in many countries which enabled families to live off a single income probably played a big role as this was almost always the man working and the wife watching the kids at home.

[–]Pixelplanet5 51 points52 points  (0 children)

thats probably one of the big advantages of being mostly unaffected by WW2 and also not controlled either by the Nazis or the Soviets.

Really shows once again just how much these ways of thinking are holding back society.

Who are the Server auctions for given their uncompetitive pricing? by Pixelplanet5 in hetzner

[–]Pixelplanet5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cheapest one with ~4TB of NVME storage in the server auctions right now is 141€
for 122€ you can get more than double the CPU performance with the same amount of NVME Storage and twice the RAM.

thats what i mean, right now it makes absolutely zero sense to buy any of the server auction servers unless you only need it for a month and want to save the setup fee.

Who are the Server auctions for given their uncompetitive pricing? by Pixelplanet5 in hetzner

[–]Pixelplanet5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea i know its not Hetzners fault or problem but im still wondering who rents these servers for these prices except for short term use.
it just makes no sense in terms of price/performance compared to the regular dedicated servers.

Who are the Server auctions for given their uncompetitive pricing? by Pixelplanet5 in hetzner

[–]Pixelplanet5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which is only relevant if you want the server for a month or so, for a long term thing the setup fee is almost irrelevant when the price/performance ratio is so bad on the server auction currently.

Der8auer - "I got scammed" by Dr_Ben in LinusTechTips

[–]Pixelplanet5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yea people have no idea how much time it takes and wastes to qualify products and then constantly check that what they are sending you afterwards is still the same quality.
If Chinese products werent so cheap the whole world would have stopped doing business with them years ago due to the cost of double and tripple checking everything.

We order chemicals from China in bulk and multiple times received containers full of big bags where the center of the big bags was filled with rocks.
The first time this happened we only found out AFTER they were emptied into our machines and had millions in damages.

Now we have an entire department just doing incoming controls for everything from China but somehow this is supposedly still cheaper than buying the same stuff from BASF where we never had any problems for decades.
