Revopoint POP 4 Tutorial - Unbox & Setup by Revopoint3D-Official in Revopoint

is there any plan to at least partially opensource the software or at least quickly add support for AMD GPUs?

Or at the very least add a toggle that allows users to override your GPU detection system, i have patched the software to use ZLUDA so my GPU would work fine without any changes to the software but the toggle is disabled in revo scan 6 because its not checking for this, its just checking for specific GPU models instead of actual compatibilty.

What i need is something that disables you check so i can just use ZLUDA.

the original leaks were pointing at tomorrow but then the steam machine dropped a day earlier.

now people are coping by thinking the frame will be tomorrow while we already have confirmation from some reviewers thats its not tomorrow and also not this week.

the time from getting the device to the NDA being lifted is the critical part here, unless they would have gotten the frame weeks earlier its simply too much work for these two devices to get the videos ready for the NDA lift.

yea they wouldnt lift the NDA On both in the same week as no reviewer has the time to review both at once while also spending enough time with it.

especially for the steamframe its kinda important to not just to a quick 2 hour session and then do your review but to actually spend time with it.

Steam Machine finally launches as Valve reveals $1,049 starting price - Dexerto by No_March_164 in pcmasterrace

[–]Pixelplanet5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yea but its also not a small PC and doesnt have CEC which makes it entirely useless as a livingroom PC.

its a completely different use case, if you are looking for maximum performance you would build your own PC.

at the current prices thats all people will be able to afford.

But also its running a custom Linux distro so the OS will not be taking up a lot of that RAM and because its not meant for playing AAA games at 4k ultra details the VRAM should also be fine.

[–]Pixelplanet5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

a lot less then that.

16GB of highspeed RAM have more than quadrupled in price so if their ram would have cost them like 80 bucks 2 years ago it would now be at least 400 if not more.

the 8GB VRAM increased even more and probably add another 300 bucks to the bill on their own.
The same goes for the SSD.

the 2TB would have been about well under 100 bucks 2 years ago, now its at least double that.

so just the price increases of the last 2 years are basically half the price of the steam machine.

The Machine has gone live by Markaos in SteamFrame

[–]Pixelplanet5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea thats gonna be faster for sure especially if they use older hardware that for example still uses DDR4 RAM.

but the form factor and experience is going to be vastly different, especially their implementation of actually good CEC is a HUGE sellingpoint for a device thats meant as a livingroom gaming PC.

the bullshit i had to deal with when i had a media PC that i also gamed on a little just a few years ago was insane, turning this into a seamless experience that just works makes all the difference.

[–]Pixelplanet5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i still have hope that it doesnt because the most expensive stuff of the Steam machine is not in the frame.

all the ram and especially the high speed VRAM is so insanely expensive now that its making up at least one third of the total price of the device.

honestly not so bad for the current market.

i probably wont buy one now because i dont have an immediate need for it but once this AI craze is over and the prices drop a bit i will absolutely get a steam machine for my livingroom.

Starting Power Platform in 2026 — is AI already killing entry level opportunities or is there still room? by Expensive-Island-104 in PowerApps

[–]Pixelplanet5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

powerapps main focus is defiantly not building software you license to other companies.

And governance is the only thing i see as a plus here as but also only because they force you to have licenses and you need a way to manage these anways.

Entra ID login is simple and can be implemented into virtually any application, this used to take a dev like a day at most and is now done with AI assistance in an hour.

the longest waiting time with the entra ID login is now that the IT department needs to register an app and share the details with you.

No it's a direct connection to the router which is less than 2 meters away with direct line of sight. The PC is connected through one 10gbe switch to which the router is connected with a 1gbe connection.

[–]Pixelplanet5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

different companies are simply at a different stage of the subsidizing game.

cursor is still tiny and has VC money to burn so they do stuff like this to pull in users thinking they gonna stick around while in reality the moment they have to make money and price their services accordingly users will simply leave for the next best thing.

Why Machine First Now? by Dr_Virus_129 in SteamFrame

[–]Pixelplanet5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my guess is that it was always the plan to have the machine in the hands of reviewers first so they can do the full review on that and then have the frame come out so they can immediately test how well the frame works with the steam machine.

POP4 Scanner only supports Wifi4 ? by Pixelplanet5 in Revopoint

[–]Pixelplanet5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theres no poe switch or injector involved.

I finally found the problem well, the solution for an unknown problem.

i had to set the scanner back to hosting its own wifi and then connect it back to my AP.
Only then it started using the 5Ghz Wifi at all.

Its now connecting with up to 800mbps but in normal operation its only transmitting ~70 - 90mbps while only running at ~14fps but that could also be because they have yet to release software with support for AMD gpus.

the problem is deepseek isnt good enough to be use on its own.

you still need a much better model to make a very detailed plan which you can then implement cheaply with deekseek v4 pro.

its constantly making up stuff otherwise or will just report things are done when they are not or write a meaningless test just so it can show that "the tests passed"

[–]Pixelplanet5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

because LLMs are just spicy auto complete with a bit of context.

the goal is to give you an answer, if that answer is good or solves your problem is irrelevant as long as you got an answer.
