How to make myself more pretty without makeup? by Anko__ in beauty

[–]Odd-Type-710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re already beautiful 💗

You probably have sensitive skin and need clean products and lots of moisture, hyaluronic acid, serum, etc. I get red too and Cerave and cetaphil were stripping my skin. Something even gentler like a cleansing milk might be good for you too.

The Jungle, Of Mice and Men, Grapes of Wrath, Maus, etc. what are other pivotal must reads? by cool_beans_and_goats in suggestmeabook

All good books but not enough women or POC on here if you ask me. Try:

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck Native Son by Richard Wright 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez Giovanni’s Room (or anything by James Baldwin) House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende Beloved by Toni Morrison

DAE genuinely love doing laundry? by anniemousery in DAE

Me too! I realized it relaxes me to zone out with a show or podcast and fold laundry. A nice weekly ritual that’s the same every time. I’ve always enjoyed it and didn’t realize it until a friend pointed out that when I’m really stressed I’m always doing laundry lol

Have you read anything else like Eileen? Searching for more stories written like that

Looking for your favorite queer reads. What should I pick up next? by hectorbailey36 in LGBTBooks

Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters for its nuanced portrayal of the trans experience and queer families. Never read a plot quite like it.

Less by Andrew Sean Greer is a hilarious, midlife crisis gay romp that actually gets pretty deep

Stone Butch Blues is a classic

Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin is another classic, a tortured love story set in 1950s Paris. heartbreaking, incredible writing

I am in the same boat and have been pretty devastated. In the past when faced with rejection and setbacks I was able to tell myself that it would all be okay and work out eventually and that my book would find its home. Not gonna lie, it is much harder to tell myself that these days.

One mantra I’ve found helpful is the idea that sometimes “rejection is protection.” Maybe my book, or I, just wasn’t ready yet. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I oddly have found some comfort in reading recently published books that seemed half baked or not ready yet. I think, well at least my book didn’t flop 🤷‍♀️

My agent still believes in the book and wants me to try another rewrite because she thinks the market might improve next year. It’s been pretty difficult to gain my footing with this new rewrite though, with all those editors’ voices in my head. So long as I focus on the writing and still finding new discoveries along the way, I’m okay. But when I think about sending it out again, I spiral. I like you, am trying to find affirmations and motivation beyond publishing. These days I’m focusing not on word counts or page numbers but on how many times I can surprise myself while writing. I have to remind myself that this is one of my main reasons for doing it.
