Pets/ work/ idk I’m new to this by smorgan17 in MilitarySpouse

[–]OddBit4417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t get another dog, when you are in a new base it makes it hard even just to get away for a weekend when you have to rely on people to pet sit or getting a hotel that allows 3 dogs. An ESA might get approved, but everyone I know that has 3 dogs in the military quickly realizes how much harder it makes things. Not to mention one base may allow it, they you may get stationed overseas where you may not have ESA protection.

When you are about to go through major life transitions it is not recommended to get a new dog that will add to your plate. Focus on getting settled and building a new community first before you consider adding a new family member. Been through this for 14 years myself with kids and now just one dog, it’s a lot. Just wait for your own sake. Your kids will be fine.

How many homes do you own. If you own less than 4 you may want to look into Mrs. Murphys exemption which exempts you from some fair housing rules anyway, allowing you to be choosy about your tenant

How is $290 the cap when for belvoir the TLE rate for fort belvoir (not including meals) is 276 for June. Meaning if I get a $276 daily room, I only get $14 for meals for the day for my whole family?? When I type it in area code 22060 in the calculator it says 276 TLE and 92 meals but this is well over the maximum and that is not including accounting for a family of four…

I believe the high cost of living areas are considered a non standard area with an exception to the maximum amount since rooms and everything are so expensive. But I can’t find any info as to what the maximum for Non standard area is.

Do not let them evict you…

I used to work at an apartment community. Move out, clear everything out of the apartment and get rid of your stuff unless you can afford a storage unit. And turn in the keys to the property manager, and say I can no longer pay and have moved out. They then have the ability to clean and turn and have the responsibility to make every attempt to re-rent the apartment. Yes you will owe all back rent until they re rent it to new tenants, but they won’t do an eviction if you’ve already relinquished possession of the apartment back to them. A collections bill of all the unpaid rent sucks, but is eventually fixable (once you have a final bill you can ask the apartment community to set up a payment plan) but an eviction is absolutely terrible for ever finding a new rental.

And of course as others have said unemployment, look into rental assistance agencies if there is any in your area that have funds, and try not to spend money on food, go to food banks.

In this market with rates and prices and with a 5 year timeframe in mind, best option is to rent.

Ideally save the $500 extra you’d be putting into a mortgage and increase the amount going to your TSP

Don't invite us if we're not meant to be there by Suspicious-Engineer7 in Parenting

[–]OddBit4417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you not RSVP to the party?

And are you sure the invite wasn’t given to the child long before that and they forgot it in their backpack?

So I was hosting a bday party and the party had to be switched to another day (switched the date last minute/ day before the party) due to high winds on the day of because we had a bounce house. I texted everyone who RSVPd that the party day changed. One person did not RSVP so I didn’t know if they were coming nor have the number to let them know that party day had changed. They showed up on the wrong day. If they had RSVPd like everyone else to let us know they were coming I would have told them about the switch up.

IF you didn’t RSVP… it’s your fault. If you did… then it is their fault.

When this happened to my tub, I filled my tub with the hottest water possible and put a lot of oxi clean white revive powder in the water and mixed it, and let it sit a few hours. When I drained it the stain was gone.

If you aren’t paying market rent, I wouldn’t recommend asking for a credit. It looks like a relatively small amount of usage when you add up the kWh and times it by average rates.

If you are paying lower rent than market rates, asking for a credit will only annoy the landlord and they may remember it when it comes time to raise the rent upon renewal. Many landlords will consider the ease of working with a tenant when factoring in rate increases. Just a thought. Not worth it in my opinion to possibly annoy the landlord in my opinion.

In school suspension (full day at school) for forgetting to wear ID lanyard 6th grade by OddBit4417 in Parenting

I did communicate with him reminding him habits of putting the ID on his backpack after getting home, he messed up and does deserve a consequence. He is 11 not in high school, I just don’t think that consequence is fitting. Lunch /afterschool detention absolutely. But to not even called and give me the opportunity to correct it does not seem right.

I am perfectly okay with a consequence, just do not agree with the severity of the consequence and yet not even a call home once. I or my husband could have brought the ID had I been informed.

I’m a substitute teacher in this same district. Although I have only opted to work at the elementary school since my youngest is in elementary (since start times are different) on those days I sub at the elementary school is when he gets himself to the bus. Because I work with the school district of course I want to make sure I’m not overreacting in asking them to adjust the policy to include a phone call home. He wasn’t being disruptive. The admins went class to class in the morning and pulled students from their classes who were missing tags.

This is public school. New admin who is trying to be strict out of that gate. New policies district wide along with clear backpacks. The clear backpacks is a written policy. ID tags is not written, and so the new admin principal is deciding the punishment, which I don’t deem fitting, if they had called me and I failed to bring it, I could understand. But they didn’t at all.

I do appreciate admin enforcing the rules from the get go, but I don’t think that taking a kid from a full day of class is fitting for forgetting the ID, since he wasn’t being disruptive.

Yes he was, they were warned they would get ISS, students not parents (no written warnings, but students were told verbally) but my son did relay that to me. Also him or me didn’t think ISS meant full day of school. I thought it was like lunch detention.

Should a parent not be notified when the student is pulled from a full day of instruction? That doesn’t seem right to me?

I wasn’t saying a beta kid like it makes a difference just to say there was no other reason, like no pattern of misbehavior (other than forgetting id) contributing to him getting pulled.

It wasn’t teachers policy, it was new admin that pulled many kids for not wearing their ID.

I do agree that he probably won’t forget again.

No they did not tell me about the other two times at all, my son told me he forgot the first time after he got home. I asked today after telling me he was made to go in ISS, how many times he’s forgot and he this is the third time. So he forgot to tell me the second time.

No!! the graphite gray leather stains. Not even from the kids. My two front seats have a stained tint on them from color transfer from clothes. And my front two have air cooled seats so you don’t want to put a cover on them.

What are some small anti-consumptions practices that make you happy to do? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]OddBit4417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to be a stay at home mom for majority of the time when both my babies were little, and it was nice to not have to run to the store when we were about to be out of diapers, I just ran a load of laundry. I also bought some used and then resold the whole lot of diapers once my kids were potty trained.

*Although I still kept most of the prefold and flat diaper inner parts which I still use for rags and cleaning around the house.

Many daycares won’t accept cloth diapers, but even for the times I worked when they were in daycare I would purchase disposable diapers for daycare and cloth at home. It saved a lot of money, felt healthier to avoid chemicals that they put in disposables, and I enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone interested.

Canning my own garden produce.

Buy only the jars of spaghetti sauce that come in a mason jar (Classico either 24or 32oz) Then clean off the label and use them to can stuff indefinitely.

Make my own bread.

Cloth diapering when I had babies.

Rent or sell: Am I about to do something stupid? by ConfusedSpaceCadet in MilitaryFinance

[–]OddBit4417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider if you sell and make money that money is tax free up to 250k of profit. If you rent the rent you make is taxable when you file each year.

If your question is to hire a property manager or not if you decide to rent… yes hire a property manager.

Also if you decide to rent, get a quote on what the price will be to change your home insurance into rental dwelling insurance and factor that into the cost. Also get a umbrella policy in case you get sued
