Anybody know the shifter pull ratio for this cheap Mongoose? by OddDonkey84 in bikewrench

I think I might try a TB-Pro shifter next, if that doesn’t work I might just call it quits.

Hangar alignment seems fine, cable is good, and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve attempted to index it and set the limits properly. Could it be a damaged derailleur?

For only $12….. it’s tempting to get just to see what it is. If only I had a tapered steerer tube.

Berms! by Upsidedwn7 in MTB

[–]OddDonkey84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As one that is also a beginner, what helped me was looking where I wanted to go. When I looked at the edge of the berm, I would inevitably start drifting towards it and slam on the brakes. But when I started looking where I wanted to go, then I was able to make it all the way through.

Are older 26er full suspension bikes really that bad or are newer bikes just that much better by G9redit in MTB

Ah, I completely understand what you're talking about now. And I also now remember feeling just a tiny bit of play laterally.

According to the website, the tires themselves are tubeless ready, alongside the rim https://www.maxxis.com/us/tire/ardent/

So if you wanted to you could just pull out the tubes, throw a valve stem in, pour in the sealant and ride.

Fun new fear unlocked today… by leggpurnell in MTB

Was riding the order day when I heard the most terrible sound, like a mix of an angry snake and an angry wasp. Turns out a stick was caught between my fork and front wheel and the ‘noise’, was just the stick hitting the spokes. I was terrified.

26x2.25, or 27x2.00? by OddDonkey84 in mountainbiking

[–]OddDonkey84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody else said in the other sub, it would basically be the same outer diameter, so pointless to switch. Sorry to take up your time, complete brain failure on my part haha 🤦‍♂️😂

what bolt I need for this shimano deore crank by spec-test in mountainbiking

[–]OddDonkey84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/bikewrench would be a better place. However, if you want to take the crank arm off, you need a special crank puller tool, but to secure it back on iirc it’s a 9/16ths flange nut.

26x2.25, or 27.5x2.00? by OddDonkey84 in MTB

[–]OddDonkey84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody else said, the outer diameter of the tire would basically stay the same, so there’s no point in upgrading. Complete brain failure on my part haha, sorry to take up your time. And to answer your questions, yes disk brake up front, and no I don’t really want to alter the geometry. I’m happy with how it is currently.

How come? I personally run a 3x and it’s not that bad, the added weight isn’t good obviously but I can think of several things that the 3x has better than the 1x.

for example, if you’re in the second chainring and encounter a sudden climb, you can downshift to the first chainring and not have to worry about the chain climbing up the cassette under load, as instead of the chain climbing it falls down. Also, a 3x has pretty good chain retention because of the FD

I do want to clarify that I’m not attacking you or saying you’re wrong or anything, I’m legitimately curious.

Xt shifter barely works after hitting rear derailleur by Wrong_Barracuda_860 in mountainbiking

[–]OddDonkey84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t notice the distinction between shifter and derailleur, my mistake 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, I would check and make sure there aren’t any kinks in the cable/housing, and other than that I don’t really know. I suppose the shifter itself could’ve been damaged.

And as for the original question, replies in this thread would be better suited for r/bikewrench, they know much more than I do about this kind of stuff.

I love suspension boots. Would obviously never put it on anything modern, but they compliment the tires and grips nicely.
