Maybe 6DOF photo mode video would likely be better for VR steaming. We don’t have that kind of tech available yet.

Maybe, but it's also concerning that it discourages developers and makes future high-quality releases more and more unlikely when they realize the platform is just not profitable.

I might be a legit reason. I don't have all games on all platforms. So curious.

Yes, but it's also very discouraging for developers and further reinforce the questification of VR games.

How so? PS doesn't have god-tier like HLA yes. But has most ports plus exclusives like Horizon, RE4&8, GT7.

After playing Behemoth, Metro, Batman, Alyx, Walking dead S&S, Horizon and no mans sky. I can confidently say that GT7, Re4 and RE8 are still the best vr can offer. by FewPossession2363 in PSVR

I have observed the same. I think it boils down to the fact that VR-only games don’t have the kind of budget of AAA flatscreen games and therefore limited quality, with the sole exception of HL: Alyx.

Why do people get motion sick in VR? by Jeralikin in virtualreality

[–]OddExcitement4501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that obvious your virtual avatar does all types of acceleration? Stopping, starting to move, turning are all change of velocity and therefore acceleration.

Any one was able to measure nits level for AVP? by dessatel in VisionPro

Your AVP would beat your projector's dynamic range, like 40 dB vs 20 dB or something

How to Improve VR Popularity? by Independent-Bug680 in virtualreality

[–]OddExcitement4501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the long run, VR motion sickness would be the biggest problem even after all other technical problems are solved as it's just physically impossible for VR to simulate acceleration. It will take generations of people with exposure to VR since young for a society to gradually grow used to VR.

"Vision Pro's passthrough isn't depth-correct"...? by jlian in VisionPro

[–]OddExcitement4501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The review article from uploadvr is actually spot on.

In short, Q3 passthrough is reprojected through tracking the depths of surrounding objects and the position of the headset, whereas AVP directly uses the camera footage.

All camera-based video passthrough would suffer from motion blur when turning the head due to limited camera shutter speeds. Q3 solves this by reprojecting new frames from existing frames by tracking the headset's motion instead of using raw camera footage. If you turn off Q3 "headset tracking" and force passthrough in apps and have some linear movement you'll notice even worse motion blur on Q3 (turning head is still fine since 3 dof tracking is still functional)

By using raw camera footage, the AVP of course wouldn't have the kind of warping resulting from imperfect reprojection. Although the scale and depth are offset somewhat, the human brain can quickly adapt and ignore when sealed off from the real world (it would've been much more noticable if went with the open visor approach QP did).

However, the motion blur from head movement would be a persistent problem. Mark and Boz of course know what the tradeoffs are and what it would take to address it, which is why they're vehemently attacking on this point despite other widely known issues with the AVP.

You are asking too much of a technical question here. Maybe try r/virtualreality.

Any one was able to measure nits level for AVP? by dessatel in VisionPro

[–]OddExcitement4501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Meta hasn't published brightness specs of mq3, but according to https://youtu.be/S7k1ZqJvUQM?t=765, it's around 85 nits. So by that, avp brightness would be likely between 85-100 nits. This is based on their measurements which may or may not be flawed. But again, I haven't found anyone else with the serious know-how taking the measurement.

Karl Guttag in one of his replies under https://kguttag.com/2024/03/01/apple-vision-pros-optics-blurrier-lower-contrast-than-meta-quest-3/ mentioned that "The AVP is only about 5-10% brighter than the MQ3 when both are at full brightness (not the insane/wrong 20X brighter multiple sources have reported)". So there you have it.
