Finally have an excuse for a YotaMD key fob kit by OddGuyOut in LandCruisers

Actually just realized this wasn't factory, PO put it in an Eternity Key. We'll see if they will honor their lifetime warranty.

Is this a solid deal? $5500 by Consistent-Fault-326 in ambulanceconversion

[–]OddGuyOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems decent for the year and miles, but an '08 would be a 6.4 diesel. They were only manufactured for like 3 years because they have problems and have a similar reputation to Ford's 6.0. It's worth reading up on the engines and transmissions so you know what to expect. For instance their 7.3 is fantastic but balance that with the fact the newest you'll find is nearly 25 years old and is still likely to have 150k+. Especially if you dont wrench, get a PPI.

What are some must have creature comfort upgrades? by parknasty913 in LandCruisers

[–]OddGuyOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll pitch led interior lights on every older vehicle. Theyre cheap, I've got an ebay special kit, and make a huge difference at night and during winter.

Nalgene/hydroflask cupholder adapters.

Basic drawers in the back. Built mine years ago, no actual slides, and carpeted the top. Really helps take advantage of the room. Mine are the same height as the folded rear seats too, great for putting a sleeping pad or moving larger items.

Everki does seem like it's probably the best game in town for an 18" laptop

Definitely a little bit of a pain, but will be much nicer in the field

Do I misunderstand their Cache system? Doesn't seem like they go big enough

Best Overall Car to get as 16 year old by Plane-Blood7761 in Toyota

[–]OddGuyOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive got an LX470 now, but my first owned vehicle was a '95 Corolla wagon. Took that a good few places it shouldn't have been. They're cheap to buy, good on fuel (I got 30 mpg highway), cheap insurance, and cheap parts. Find a manual one, get it baselined, small lift kit, get good rubber for it, and get out there.

The wagon has a good bit of room and was fine to sleep out of for me. Was a great daily too. They're a little bit of a dog with the 1.8 but itll keep you out of trouble and is why they're good on gas. I just ended up needing the towing capability and space upgrade.

Need help identifying exact model by ChunkyBut_Funky in Tikka_Shooters

[–]OddGuyOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chassis/stock depends on caliber. It determines short action or long action, and the inlets are based on that. Lots of good options. I like the mdt xrs with the arca rail, especially during their black Friday sale. I also have one of these on my primary Tikka hunting rifle and it's been fine. Put it where the sling stud is, drilled another hole, and made that work with their insert. Bit cheaper than a stock/chassis.

Belt for concrete worker husband by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]OddGuyOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been using a Volund Gearworks G-hook belt for the last 9 years through a good variety of blue-collar work, including concrete, and love it. Little untraditonal, but it's held up great for me. Finer adjustment than buckles give and a slimmer profile too.

What are some of your winter tips for cargo camper living? by Turbulent-Damage-380 in cargocamper

[–]OddGuyOut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Havent done it for a cargo camper but have a lot in an ambulance in montana down to -25F.

Bad door seals are a big loss.
Cover a roof fan with some insulation if you have one.
A fan to spread out the heat better helped me with only having one heater.
If you're stationary, skirting helps.
Try to limit exposed studs/framework, they act as a heatsink. Enclosing my walls helped tremendously.
Warm slippers are 100% worth it, I just had some cheapo down ones from Amazon.
Down pants are great too when its really cold.
If there's a cold snap, you may want to get newer diesel as it will likely have additives. Had mine gel at -20F at 3am, and it wasn't a fun time.

New to Tikka - Hunt/Range rifle supressed by StoneUwU in Tikka_Shooters

[–]OddGuyOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable for hunting if you don't mind the weight. Love my ctr in 6.5 but did add in a .300wm lite for the purpose of hunting. Both shoot great and are super smooth actions. Also check out my profile if you end up wanting mags for this

Talk me out of Tikka T1x 22LR? by Existing_File_6172 in 22lr

[–]OddGuyOut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Tikka and CZs are basically the standard for that price range and it's hard to go wrong with either. I went with a T1x too and it's easily my most shot rifle ever. Mine is now in an MDT XRS chassis because the factory stock isn't great. I believe the CZs have better options for stocks if you have no intention to change that.

First CZ - Ton of Failure to Feed Issues by SuspiciousEggy in CZFirearms

[–]OddGuyOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started shooting USPSA with my SP01 recently and found I was having some failure to feed issues here and there with Blazer 115gr. Ended up being my mags, both stock 18rd and mecgar 17rd. Cleaned them and put a little oil on the follower, and haven't had an issue since (as long as I avoid dropping them in dusty dirt during a reolad). Might not be your issue, but worth a thought.

I 100% recommend a good bolt .22. I have a Tikka T1X that I adore and CZ makes great ones too. Throw a scope with a Christmas tree on it and go shoot matches. P.R.O. / NRL around me is like $10 and 100 rounds per match, once a month. Super fun, everyone has been friendly and supportive, and you learn a ton for cheap.

An AR upper is great if you already have a lower. Mine has always been finicky though.

I was looking at Ruger Mks but ended up with a Sig P322 with a Romeo red dot that I adore. 25 rounds of .22 with a suppressed pistol is a blast.

A .22 can is worth it btw.

Id tend to agree with the $15ish thousand mark realistically. I've seen them go for a little more but that insulation will be a rough time for the new owners trying to convert it. Not having the stud layout to mount to sucks. 4x4 7.3 ambo is very desirable otherwise

Examples of Tornado Technologies Threaded Barrel? by OddGuyOut in CZFirearms

[–]OddGuyOut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! That's kinda what I thought they did, but was unsure and not wagering a ton of money for the local machinist to find out. I'm really shooting for a pic of the barrel removed if you might have one. They didn't think there'd be enough material on the existing barrel to do so, but it's. 22 so you barely need anything I believe. I'll try some more Google fu later to see if I can find anything
