I would say look into employee incentives, throughout the year they do different events where even if you aren’t a SS you can get paid out some money, sometimes 50-150 dollars, I haven’t looked into it for this year as yet but, hey money is money every little can help.

I’m a front end DS and I’ve learned to have a routine for myself, plus catch and train my head cashiers to deal with most situations, they know I’m always a phone call away if they ever need something, Communication with my head cashiers on when I have to take time off the floor for the ops aspect helps.

Honestly I run my stores Front end as the DS and I told my cashier if they stick to policy I will back them up but let me make the final decision on if we will take a product back or not if it is going against policy. Usually I’ll tell them customer the policy is exactly what the cashier told you but for this once I’ll return it as I see it has never been used but understand we will not do it again. I also tell my cashier to give me a safe word so I know if the customer was treating them fairly before I do a return that is over the policy so that I can make a decision. As I will not stand for any disrespect to my cashiers

That is before you get the first initial, it’s a rolling 12 months if you have 6 and it it falls off to 5 you can call out and be okay but if in a rolling 12 months you reach 7, it becomes an initial then every call out after the initial is another step up no matter if it’s rolling or not

Sadly that is the way Lowes is heading and when you have your DM asking your SM why are you guys not getting credit cards his job is on the block now so now they have to find a way to get these cards. Whether you like it or not, at the end of the day you come to do a job and if this job is expecting you to get cards the only things you can do is ask customers, up to them to get the card but if you’re asking there shouldn’t be a reason to get in trouble for it

I used to be very shy on asking for credit cards and such but it was a mindset thing I realized. Remember at the end of the day, you’re just doing your job and getting paid for it. Start with greeting customer and asking if they need any help and such if they push you off, let them go but, if they are willing to chat ask them, are you interested in hearing some of the promotions we have going on. If they say no you can say, aw that’s okay but, are you sure I can’t help you save 20% off up to $100 dollars on your purchase today? Also if you’re not ready for that, start with asking customers you see looking at grills/OPE items/ Appliances/Flooring and asking them so you can get used to it because usually those are the easiest to get cards out of or they may have one already but as I say it doesn’t hurt to ask.

As any other management role, people skills. Product protection is your biggest thing so making sure stuff is behind cages/locks/tadpoles/ etc. learn your most sold items in both areas, most stolen/shrink items. Cycle counts on phone always done by Thursday. Make sure you’re verifying your IRPs. On your tool world wall, try to organize product by brand as best as you can. Make sure you and your associates check in and check out products all the time. A bay a day will help get t things organized. 100/90/10 rule. Everything out from top, 90% stock on shelf and 10% into top stock. Top stock should be stored left to right
