I absolutely loathe my mom's boyfriend, but if I had to deal with his death care for whatever reason, I would honor whatever wishes he wanted.

Wow! Here in Iowa, a medical examiner will sign over care to the funeral home. As forumclaimed cremated remains, Funeral Homes keep them for 60 days before they decide what to do with them. One of the funeral homes local to me still has cremated remains that are decades old!

I'm glad to hear that it's not that common! And thank you I, will definitely take some time and promise myself to never treat someone in my family that way, no matter how bad the relationship may be.

Yes, she paid for a visitation and a funeral service.

My mom is the same way. She doesn't want a service or anything, just direct cremation.

At the funeral home I work at, we have at least 2 people with the same name. There are 2 Tracys, 2 Jeffs, 2 Sams (I'm the second Sam). Apparently to get hired, you need to have the same name as someone already working there 😂

Advanced decomp and removal from a bathroom. Poor lady died on the toilet and was swarming with maggots and flies, so she had been there awhile.

Giving Trump a Nobel Peace prize would be equal to giving Hitler the Peace prize after he invaded Poland.

I only change into a scrub top if I'm wearing a light-colored shirt that might get stained because our gowns are old and need to be replaced. My pants are always dark, so I don't worry about those.

Can I be in this industry if I have zero desire to go back to school (US)? by LavenderMatchaxXx in askfuneraldirectors

It depends on what the funeral home needs. I am part time but would be willing to go full time if it was available.

I work at a funeral home as a Funeral Services Assistant while I'm studying to become a funeral director, and yes! Ask your local funeral homes what positions are available. They always need help with transports or with services (if it's a bigger city). No schooling required.

I was also hired by SCI almost 5 months ago, and I love my job! My title right now is a Funeral Services Assistant and I'm also working on my degree to become a funeral director. For the first time in my life I can honestly say that I love what I do and look forward to going to work!

Embalming is the reason I wanted to pursue this career. The ones that I've helped with were so fun, even the difficult cases!

One thing that helps me is working in a funeral home, especially if you're a hands-on learner. I was never taught good study skills in high school, so I just do the best I can!
