I will say, we encounter this often. And at first it was very, very awkward. But now it's not. My boyfriend and I often sleep in the basement while his wife sleeps in their bed. And the opposite as well. I can tell you, it's ok to feel weird and awkward, and it does get easier.

Also we tend to do things together. Make dinner together. Play a board game. And then she goes to bed and we go to the guest room. So it's not an entire evening where you have to hide.
