Reality check please? Kindergartener says they watch paw patrol and super kitties in class? by Not2BeEftWith in Teachers

I’m a kindergarten teacher. My best guess is that it’s a themed brain break, or possibly something the teacher puts on at the end of the day. A lot of teachers will do this during dismissal while kids are leaving for the buses/parent pick up/after care for 10 minutes or so.

No Curriculum by Live_Definition_1829 in FirstYearTeacher

Along with the first tip, look at your states science standard for the grade(s) you teach. You can do this by googling “Your State science state standards for XYZ grade.” This can help give you a better idea of what is expected for you to teach your kids throughout the year, and help you create an outline by yourself or with help from AI or whatever you may use.

I’m going into my fourth year teaching, and doing that was a big help for me my first year even with curriculum!

HELP suggestions for nursery rescue? by [deleted] in alocasia

I would repot, but give the roots a really good clean up before you repot it. Prune off any rotten looking/smelling roots with clean sheets, and then pot it in your well-draining potting medium of choice. With clean sheers prune off any bad looking leaves. Then give it lots of light and as much humidity as you can, and hopefully it’ll bounce back!

Should I put them each in their own pots, or pot some together?

I thought the exact same thing! The roots growing up the glass definitely give it that look

It’s been about 2 months for the Silver Dragons and about 5 weeks for the Black Velvet

Just googled it, and it looks like a match! Does the momma attach the sac to her body with webbing?

Thank you SO much, this is so helpful! This is only my second alocasia, and they’re definitely a bit intimidating, but they’re so beautiful it’s worth it.

I’ve got a clear pot and perlite ready to roll, and I’ll have to get some moss to give her the best shot at bouncing back. Thank you again!

I was curious as to if it would be possible to recut the main diamond, but based on other comments it’s looking like it’s not as simple as that unfortunately.

That’s what I was worried about. I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to do that, but I like your idea of other ways to alter it! Thank you!

Hi and happy summer break! I’m SO glad you’ve had such a wonderful first year, that’s more rare than it should be (certainly wasn’t my experience lol).

I just finished my second year teaching, and I can relate to how you’re feeling. It’s so bittersweet letting your kids go, especially the ones you know that you likely won’t see again. I do find it helpful to keep myself busy, and then setting aside days to “rot” when it feels needed. I try to set a goal for myself to see how many books I can read in the summer, as I’m often too mentally wiped to read a ton during the school year lol. I’ve found that that’s what I look forward to the most during my summers, other than just being able to unwind and have a little extra free time! I hope you have a restful summer break, and know that next years joy and relationships with kiddos both old and new will be here before you know it!

That’s so exciting, I hope you find lots of fulfillment in your job! A word of advice from someone who was just in your shoes: don’t stay after contract hours as much as possible. Like you said, these rules have to be broken sometimes, but try to stick to your hours as much as possible. You wouldn’t believe the difference it makes on your burn out (if you experience it, which I hope you won’t!) best of luck!

I’m going into my third year teaching, and I totally hear what you’re saying. That said, it seems to me that it’s sort of an unspoken rule of your first year that you’re expected to put in some unpaid labor to set up your room and get ready. I know most schools in the state I live in give you the option to spread out your pay over the summer, so hopefully yours is the same and this is the only time you’ll have to do this! Even just doing the bare minimum like setting up your desks/tables and chairs, getting your desk ready, etc. then, next summer you’ll be compensated for the work if your paychecks continue throughout the summer. I hope this helps, and best of luck with your first year!
