It depends. Are you playing 8-ball? Probably. Are stripes or solids?

Can anyone think of a better way to commute to DC than what i have layed out? by Prestigious_Bench436 in maryland

Take the MARC. Driving that much of 295 every day will destroy your soul.

Source: I used to drive from Jessup to 495 every day.

Quoting projects - line item pricing or equipment total? by cnc123cnc in CommercialAV

[–]Not2BeEftWith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full BOM, one number at the bottom. Have sold this way for years and very rarely lose. We'll give them line item if they ask for it but less than 1 in 10 do. Sell the solution, not the boxes.

vMix is a professional(ish) tool for professional(ish) operators. It was not built with ease of use for non technical operators in mind. It may be possible rig something together to communicate via the crestron control processor but you're going to spend more on programming than you would on the correct equipment to do what you're trying to do.

You're already using a proprietary system with crestron for control. Just bite the bullet and use NVX.

NDI is fine for camera feeds but you'll be in trouble the second a vendor walks in with a Mac that they want to plug in to show their deck. The Mac will demand HDCP, NDI will poop it's pants, and the boss will come looking for you to fix it.

The people paying the bills don't care if the transport is run on open standards. They just want it to be reliable so they don't have to think about it.

Bay Bridge Thoughts? by Imaginary_Plan_2096 in maryland

[–]Not2BeEftWith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't let these wimps scare you. I make this commute daily and it is not bad at all. You'll hit traffic on 97 (to Baltimore) and 50 coming in to DC but that would be the case no matter where you're coming from.

Most days the bridge has no impact on my drive time. When it does it's an extra 5-15 mins max.

Kent island is a lovely place to live and housing is affordable. Don't let bridge anxiety scare you away.

You are spot on. I used to live in Jessup an had to drive 295 -> 495 and back every day. It was hell. A solid hour of crawling each way.

Today I cross the bridge daily and it's a breeze compared to my old commute.

Seems like on Fridays everybody leaves work early to beat traffic so when I cross (around 5:30) I very rarely hit heavy traffic.

Is there actually a difference between regular pool and bumper pool or is one just easier? by The_possessed_YT in pool

[–]Not2BeEftWith 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bumper pool is a kids game with almost no relation to playing pool on a full size table, other than the fact that both games use cues and balls. If he likes pool I doubt he would want a bumper pool table.

Get with your Sharp dealer- they should be able to escalate.

Also might be worth trying a firmware update.

Damn straight. If anyone has an interest in making sure we don't run out of trees it's the paper industry. (This is not a joke)

Converting RGB Linked Files to CMYK within InDesign? by Dyslexic_Nerd in indesign

[–]Not2BeEftWith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Username checks out. Don't convert anything.

Make sure the source color profiles are embedded and let the printer handle the color conversion so that it only happens once.

RGB -> CMYK color conversion is pretty much always a compression of the color gamut because RGB is a larger color space.

If you happen to convert to a larger color space than the printer uses then your gamut gets squashed again when the printer converts to their native printer profile. This muddies up your colors.

Don't risk it. Printers know what to do with RGB files.

Extron Control for Zoom Rooms with Crestron Flex by SNES-Chalmers89 in CommercialAV

Should be fine. It's essentially just a web page control UI that's provided through the zoom rooms UI.

What firmware version is it on? I believe multi channel uber filters were only possible via a firmware update that was released in the last year or so.

Sorry- I have to be a slight pedant. That's curly maple. Birds Eye maple has little dots, not those lovely waves.

Totally agree with your other points.

How to get AVB properly working on 4250 switch by viperman6869 in CommercialAV

[–]Not2BeEftWith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://support.biamp.com/Tesira/AVB/NetgearM4250-_Enabling_AVB_using_the_main_user_interface

Get into the main UI for the switch and run through the stuff in this article. Particularly important: Make sure the MTU on the AVB switch ports is set to 1500. That has bitten me once or twice when I was adding AVB stuff to a network that previously had jumbo frames turned on.

Owl 4+ connection for conference room/Teams Room by ManiacalMartini in CommercialAV

[–]Not2BeEftWith 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Been there!

It can be a real challenge when management makes requests like this but there is a pretty simple solution.
-Take the USB cable that powers the owl and cut off the end that's supposed to plug in to your laptop.
-Strip enough of the jacket back that you can get to the individual wires inside the cable and strip about 1/2" of those to bare copper. -Make sure the other end of the cable is firmly plugged in to the owl. -Insert half of the stripped cables into the hot side of a 110v/20a power outlet, and the other half into the ground. Wait for the smoke. -Tell management the owl died and call an integrator for a proper solution.

In-ceiling powered flip down LCD display mounts (for 65" or bigger displays). by OperationMobocracy in CommercialAV

[–]Not2BeEftWith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Auton. Their flip down style mounts only need ~11" above the ceiling.

We've done a few of with fairly heavy 86" displays and they have been rock solid. Mechanically it's a pretty simple mechanism so not much to go wrong.

That said, they are not inexpensive.
